VMT- Vehicle Miles Travelled

My 06 Mazda2 just had it's 2 year anniversary. I met my goal of keeping my miles this year to 9k, down from 11k the first year.

My goal for 2008 is 8k.

How have you managed such a large drop?

I always have such a hard time keeping my mileage down because I just love driving so much. At least right now the only time I have to drive is for school, and I go to the park & ride bus stop so its a 20 mile round trip only 2 days a week instead of 55 miles two days a week. Between now and May I only absolutely have to put 640 miles on the car instead of 1760 miles.

I don't drive as much.
I live in a place where I don't have to drive 5 miles to get a loaf of bread.
I can walk to basic services.
I already have enough crap, so I don't need to go 'shopping'. I buy online more than I used to.
I shop close to home. Any "savings" by going to cheaper stores is outweighed by the differences in transportation costs.
I never make a trip for just one purpose. I always accomplish multiple tasks.
I didn't take many roadtrips this year, but when I did it was with other people so I'd drive one trip, somebody else the next.

I didn't really try that hard. It just sorta happened. Before leaving the house, I just asked myself, "do I really need to go there now, or can it wait". It usually can wait.
