View Full Version : Wanted: Honda Insight
Hi all,
A friend of mine was looking for "a subcompact hybrid." I told him about the Insight and was wondering if anyone knew of any for sale. He lives in Madison, and I'm not sure how far he'd be willing to go, but any leads would help.
So, any leads? Thanks.
Here are two in the general area.

Use advanced search.
specify zip code and distance
It's not guaranteed to find absolutely every Insight for sale in the area but it's pretty good.
You can do essentially the same with autotrader.com.
diamondlarry 01-19-2008, 09:18 AM With Sean's recent purchase, I was looking on Ebay out of curiosity and found a 2000 with 38K miles and it's a manual. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-Honda-Insight-Citrus-Yellow-LOW-MILEAGE_W0QQitemZ120211767503QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120211767503
It's in St. Louis, MO
Blake 01-19-2008, 10:02 AM ouch.. look at that lifetime mileage! 48.6 ... I'd be VERY cautious about that one.. While its not necessarily an automatic strike, That car was driven hard, and it being out of warranty would make me look in a different direction... quickly.
diamondlarry 01-19-2008, 10:07 AM That was a bit of a concern to me as well. I'm not sure I can believe his story on it being so low because of his all-city commute.
Blake 01-19-2008, 10:25 AM I can pull 60's in the city without trying... It is a nice color though :D

I drove one of the same color a year ago through Oak Creek, WI for ~10 miles and got ~79 mpg and it was the first time behind the wheel of an Insight. I think the guy's story is an excuse for AutoX driving in the city?:D
shifty35 01-21-2008, 10:17 AM Nah, if you have a 3-4 mile commute, use the A/C frequently, and don't know any hypermiling tricks, low 40s is probably the best you'll see in an Insight.
We know it can do A LOT better, but you don't have to drive one that hard to get low 40s.
Granted, I've had a couple fun runs with a TON of throttle and assist and somehow still manage 70 mpgs... but I find some advanced techniques slipping in even when I'm not trying ;)
Hi Pdk:
___Any luck yet? I know they are going for a premium right about now but that is to be expected with $3.00 + gasoline and more to come? Has he driven an Insight as that may be the key to his wanting one and actually owning one. The next Milwaukee Hybrid Group meet would possibly give him a chance to drive one let alone meet a great group of hybrid enthusiasts.
___Good Luck

Right Lane Cruiser 01-22-2008, 12:15 PM John's link is good. All of the listings appear to be from the Honda Motorwerks in La Crosse -- you can find more and better photos of the vehicles listed there if you go to the dealer website and click around a bit. They have some good looking cars but the prices are up there...
CitrusInsighter 01-22-2008, 05:44 PM If you're interested in Insights in Wisconsin, you can't beat Motorwerks' selection. There are typically 3-7 Insights available at any given time on the lot. If you see one you're interested in their inventory, I'd be happy to take a look at it personally and even take it for a drive to see if all is in order.
I go to school in La Crosse, and actually work occasionally at the dealership when the owner has a project for me. The prices are higher than you'd typically find with private sellers and dealers who don't know what they have, but they have helped over 200 people invest in Hybrids and definitely know what they are talking about.
Harold 01-22-2008, 11:33 PM That 2000 citrus on e-bay is at $10,100. H
Harold 01-23-2008, 09:51 PM $10,200 and 3hrs till close. Not bad for 2000 mod. H
Harold 01-24-2008, 08:54 PM Winning bid $11,700. H
