After 13 years and displacing a million people, the world's largest hydroelectric dam wil be phycisally complete. It will go into service in 2008. To get an idea of the immensity, Hoover Dam generates 4 billion kilowatt hours annually - Three Gourges will generate 85.

Washington Post (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12847001/)

Long thought to be a clean energy source, now there are concerns of the CO2 released when vegetetion is flooded, etc.

At any rate, wouldn't any CO2 from rotting vegitation be temporary anyway? It's not like hydro is an ongoing source of CO2 production, the way scavaging tar sands or pumping oil year after year is. Anyway, here's a link to the wiki page about the dam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_gorges_dam).
