2008 Toyota Prius - Although it did not reach the top 10 of all US automobile sales in 2007, on a year over year basis, it smashed every vehicle on the list with an increase of 68.9%!

The fuel efficient Hybrids and non-hybrids are continuing to increase overall market share with the Big 7 Hybrids showing an overall 25.4% increase thanks mostly to the Prius-II. The Big 3 fuel efficient non-hybrids had overall sales increase by a slight 1.4%. As gasoline prices reach record highs this winter and possibly rise even higher this coming spring, expect more of the same for 2008.

The Toyota Prius hybrid gas-electric mid-size sedan posted Dec. sales of 14,212, an increase of 53.0 percent over Dec. of 2006.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid achieved sales of 4,969, 24.1 percent higher then the Dec. 2006 sales period.

The FEH/MMH twins sales data revealed 2,265 units sold in Dec. 2007, an increase of 15.1% from Dec. 2006. An 11.0% increase year over was not bad either!

The HiHy sold 2,791 units, up 18.6% percent for the Dec. 2007 vs. Dec. 2006 comparison period. The HiHy’s sister, the Lexus RX 400h hybrid reported sales of 2,032 units for the month, up 2.6 percent vs. the year ago sales period.

This will be the last time we report the Honda Accord’s sales data given its discontinuance but sales fell to just 150 units for a loss of 58.7 percent vs. the year ago period.

For the fuel efficient non-hybrid automobiles, the Corolla continues to lead with sales of 28,582 units for the month of Dec., an increase of 5.8 percent from the year-ago period.

The non-hybrid standout had to be the Honda Civic with sales totals of 27,190 units, an increase of 35.0 percent over the same Dec. sales period a year ago.

The Toyota Yaris subcompact posted Dec. sales of 5,477, a decrease of 7.7% percent from the same period a year ago.

DSR*: Daily Selling Rate - There were 26 selling days for the Dec. 2007 and 2006 sales month. There were 307 selling days for the year 2007, 1 more than 2006.

In Canada, Toyota Hybrid sales played a key role in reaching for the first time, more than 10,000 hybrid vehicles sold in a single year, almost doubling sales of 2006.

For the 2007 US sales year as a whole, the Ford F-Series P/U’s still dominated the total sales list. With a 13.2% fall off from 2006 however, the gas guzzling P/U’s reign at the top appears to be waning.

Its sad that the tundra sold more than the prius. I bet there will be a lot of people kicking themselves when gas hits $4

I wonder how much of those F-Series & Silverado sales were for fleets?

Probably 1/3 to 1/2 were for fleet, construction, and/or farm trucks. Another 15% for general hauling and personal use and the rest to look cool.

I live in SC, and I still think it's difficult to "look cool" in a pickup. :D

It's virtually impossible to look cool riding in the bed of a pickup truck...
