smash some records on the way to school and back! No one was behind me all this time whoo!

I will post my stats to school today and to home: (all data thanks to scangauge)

4.2 LPK (55.3 MPG US)
.4 L consumed (.1 Gallons)
8.7 KM drive (5.4 miles)
2654 RPM MAX
.2 hour drive (12 minutes)
55 km/h MAX speed (34 mph)
33 km/h AVERAGE speed (20 mph)

4 stop signs
9 turns
9 traffic lights
made it through 7 out of 9
2 1st gear starting out.
6 engine off attempts
5 bump starts
1 key start (because i messed up a bump start, no momentum left = no bumping)

now going home i took a different route home that allowed me to travel more downhills

4.1 LPK (56.6 MPG)
.4 L consumed (.1 gallons)
8.5 KM distance (5.3 miles)
2597 RPM MAX
.2 h drive (12 minutes)
30 mph (63 km/h) max
20 mph (32 km/h) average

4 turns
1 stop sign
9 lights
6 out of 9 lights making it through without stopping
3 1st gear starts
5 engine off attempts
3 bump starts
2 key starts

man if only i was mechanically challeneged.......... BLEHHHHHHHHH but before my trip i did check my pressures and adjusted them for 61 front and 59 rear. Maybe the front bias gave me the edge who knows but boy if i CAN GET THESE NUMBERS ON A STOCK CAR. Imagine what I can do when I pimp it out for max FE!!!!

60 mpg here i come!!!!!!! you guys are such an inspiration. :D

WOW!!!!

God job!!!

No way im going to get that out of my Civic with my commute. Best Ive seen the SG do in current is 58 mpg on a long FAS.

Very Impressive. :)

Hi Phil:

___I knew you had it in you and I cannot wait until you can string those types of results back to back. Now you are starting to receive what I call “bragging right’s” type performance just in case anyone were to consider debating the “myth” ;)

___Great job and I am really proud of you!

___Good Luck

___Wayne

"pimp it out for max FE"

...NOT likely to be airing soon as a MTV series.
(but talk about the demographic that should be targeted- teach 'em while they're young!)

That's incredible! It amazes me what you can pull off in this kind of short-haul city driving. Just curious, how much of an impact would you say FAS has on your mileage? And how much of that distance would you say you cover with the engine off? I need to learn as much about your technique as possible. :D

i'd say FAS is pretty amazing because sometimes i get fed up with the egg under my foot and have some FUN in 2nd gear lol up till 3000. Sometimes though when I'm in 3rd gear, i see teh green light KNOWING IT WILL TURN RED so i try to punch it while lugging in 3rd sometimes! As long I made it through the light the FAS will save me, my FAS usually lasts from .8 km to 2 km sometimes if I get super lucky and pass the double or even triple light bypass without turning the engine oon! When coasting with the engine off my average jumps by .2 mpg a second (assuming you covered the majority of the trip using some gas otherwise that number gets reidciously high if you start out with a FAS) so much better as opposed to assuming .1 mpg if I were just to coast in N?

Also now that I noticed, its easy for your speed to drop from 60 to 40km/h... but for some odd reason it takes a rediculously long time for your speed to drop from 40 to 0... man my car can roll at 40km/h forever almost! So i take advantage of that FAS speed as much as possible too knowing those green lights are only green for it to turn red!! I know those lights by heart now... I know how they think....just the drivers behind me sometimes convince me otherwise so... **** people!

its too bad the others still don't get it which is why i still try to convince some so maybe i can start a trend?

I'd say... out of those 8.5 km.... maybe... 2 km with FAS... over 4km if im timing the lights correctly.

I just look at my maps, and then plan out my route chosing roads that goes down more than up (even if it means adding 1 or 2 km to my total distance but so far i haven't needed to resort to that yet!). I know which lights have priority over which roads, I know which lights will go yellow as soon as another person pulls up and I know which lights to run red and so far not busted yet ;) although i have a feeling i've been pushing my luck so far HOWEVER i only do this when I know

a) there is no one turning left if so you can forget it I pray that my key works.

b) no one is turning into the lane I'm in

c) looking both ways for someone that can potenially pull me over (minus undercover cars)

Without FAS, I'd say those mileages would be in the mid 40's since I have decided no engine off today because my left foot is feeling crappy today and I don't feel like hammering my axle with bad bump starts. So N still works pretty well just not as well of course... but many believes that N in an auto is useless and I really don't believe that at all!

But that's for another thread.

As for the pimping part, i'm hoping to clean up my car in terms of under the hood and passenger comfort. The idea of hauling 4 in comfort (since my civic back seats are roomy for a coupe) with barely any expense to fuel send shivers down my spine.

That's just me, at least my technique doesn't kill like speed. My tank is sitting at 42 mpg overall, unfortnately... but something tells me that number should be higher thanks to the data freezing when scangauge is being cycled on and off :D

still getting that gas gauge to drop! I can honestly say i'm getting the hang of replicating the results for going to school, going to work is a different story since that's a different beast to tame (10 miles) or 15 km and more hills and roads + variables to deal with.

Aerodynamics I think.

Also, don't go running reds. You never know whats going to happen.

ya i got some bad habits, im just paranoid about the car not starting again if i were try to key it on lol.

ok for all our sakes, no more red light running at 30 km/h hahaha I'm possibly the slowest red light runner there is.

edit: i'm debating if i should drop the stop sign habit too...e ven though i know these stops signs (local near my house) and even the people whom i see from time to time, I KNOW there's something waiting for me i won't do it but to shut up all those nay sayers hm....

as for stop signs i rarely encounter i don't take the chance, all my friends has been busted for rolling stop except me. I could be next?

ugh it just pisses me off people get away with speeding THATS OKAY!!!!!! 10 km is okay! how about 20? 30?

me: holy **** man your going pretty fast

friend: relax.... its 80 km/h

me: in a 50 km/h zone?

In my locale I can legally turn Right on Red and I use it to my advantage.
On several lights I've found that I can FAS as I approach the red light, hand a Right, then quick Left and get to the road I left, essentially just bypassing that light....all while still remaining in FAS.

I don't know if something like that might also be an option or not, but if it is would be better than risking trouble.

yeah i dunno... tough call on my part really.

All I know is, as a person driving with the minimal amount of insuarance for me to drive, I have to make choices where I won't get into an accident at all. IF I ram into a house or street light you'll know I'll be spending my days trying to rebuild it from scratch!

Just in the end, I break one law I get flamed. They break one law its cool because speeding is so common and accepted by our society. Plus it makes you look more badass than I for sure.

Nonsense, look at the accidents out there. I bet you anything the majority of them were caused by speeding.

I guess when I post my figures, I'll let you how many laws I broken in. I guess one can say if I can achieve high mileage without breaking any laws (oh c'mon you think i wasn't gonna FAS ain't I ;) DREAM ON :P) then that would be encouraging yes?

First, the right on red law states you have to make a stop at the light before proceeding. So it is against the law to just hang a right in fas.

Breaking the law isn't something to be proud of and something I try to avoid in my quest for higher FE. I find it more of a challange to get high FE and still obey the laws and encourage everyone to obey the laws as best they can.

i had a simple route today to work. Straght one way up a hill and then take a right, battle agaist another hill and then ups and downs, take a left and then a flat towards work.

On the way there with a cold engine I netted 52 mpg

On the way back taking the exact same road, I managed to get 58 mpg! (4L/100km)

.2 gallons burned for 9 miles! I can almost taste that 60 but I think i'm really hitting my limits, I don't think i can push for anymore unless I decide to lower my FAS to even a lower speed (right now its around 15-20 mph).

Now i'm thinking about a classic prius haha... i found a decent low mileage one in the paper and will check it out hopefully on weds so depending on how things go I may just retire this car now!

At least I can tell those that I tried ;)

Phil I know you'll be breaking that 60 soon, especially that summer is here.
You know what you can safely do, and are able/willing to implement them.
