View Full Version : Completed - ScanGauge-II w/ X-Gauge Group Buy #2
Hi All:
___I am starting up a second Group Buy of SG-II’s w/ X-Gauge. I do not believe 10 purchasers could be lined up in time for a pre-Christmas delivery but a nice after-Christmas gift might be in order ;)
___Post your name in this thread if you are interested. Once 10 have posted, we will work on the payment and delivery just like the first GB earlier this month.
___Good Luck
___Wayne

FrankT 12-31-2007, 12:31 AM Wayne, what is the PayPal account name to send the $150?
Hey bomber991, cool. I'm over in Buttercup...
The Scangauge I hear is a awesome tool. the Landcruiser guys over at IH8MUD.com have been raving about it for a while now. Now that my two new car purchases are OBD-2, it's a must have for me.
Hi Frank:
___When we hit 10, I will send you the Paypal account details via PM. They are really a great tool for so many reasons, aren’t they ;)
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Perfect Switch 01-01-2008, 12:24 AM I'm in. Are we up to 10 yet?

Wayne,
Thanks a lot for setting this up! I'm looking forward to having SoC on my FEH (don't have the nav).
-- Rick
Hi Rick:
___No problem and you are going to love the X-Gauge for SoC level in the FEH ;)
___I just received Frank T’s Paypal info and payment. Only the last 4 and maybe we can get the SG-II’s out by tomorrow afternoon? My fingers are crossed.

Chuck 01-02-2008, 02:08 PM Hope this might get some of you to think of the possibilities with ScanGage II
http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/500/medium/Dashboard_plus.JPG
This is my Honda Insight with a customized "upper deck of basswood holding the NAV, ScanGage II, and a couple of temperture probes.
How I did it was go to a hobby store and purchased a foot lone piece of basswood, x-acto knife, black spray paint, and small wood screws (OK, had to go to the Home Depot for last two items). Carefully carved a hole for the ScanGage II to fit, a pair of ledges for the temp probes. Only drilled a pair of holes in the dash, that could probably be largely concealed if uninstalled. When painting, be sure to sand and glue everything first, then put a light coat first or you will waste lots of paint on the porous wood.
It's hard to get a driver's view, but it does not obstruct my view of the road at all.
Hi All:
___I have PM’ed and E-Mailed Hector with no response as of yet. We need one more to get this Group Buy out.
___Good Luck
___Wayne
rmcmast 01-02-2008, 06:00 PM Hi All:

___Wayne
Wayne,
There is a thread over on Greenhybrid.com about the SG II and how upgrading your old SG II can cause a problem with SoC for and FEH in some cases (ScanGaugeII and SoC XGauge). This is actually what convinced me to go with a second SG. I mentioned this group buy over there since you indicated that there may have a few over the original 10 that could be included. Hope that was OK.
-- Rick
Hi Rick:
___No problem and thanks. The more, the merrier in fact.
___We still need that 10th before the Group Buy can proceed and I have not heard from Hector yet :(
___Good Luck
___Wayne
RHill 01-02-2008, 09:55 PM Sure appreciate your service to the community on this, Wayne. I know it is taking a lot of your time. :)
I also posted on it over in the Jeep Patriot Forum.
RHill
Hi Rowland:
___Thank you! If I can just find that 10th GB’er, I can get these out to you :(
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Perfect Switch 01-02-2008, 10:44 PM Wayne, if Hector doesn't get back to you by tomorrow, I'll buy a second one for a buddy of mine.
Hi Perfect Switch:
___That would work out perfect for everyone’s sake ;) If Hector doesn’t reply by the AM, reply when you are ready and we can finish up this GB and place the SG-II w/ X-Gauge’s in all your hands!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi All:
___Great news! A new member (Pharmprof) PM’ed me today asking if he could participate in the SG-II Group Buy. His order makes 10 and as soon as his payment is received, they will be shipped!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi All:
___I just received Pharmprof’s payment and it should take less then an hour to do the paperwork. I will post in this GB thread when they are on their way :D
___Good Luck and thank you!
___Wayne
Hi All:
___The order is finally in and I will let you know when they are on their way!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi All:
___Everything shipped out today!
___Perfect Switch, as we talked earlier, the two SG-II’s are both in the same box so that change came just in time :)
___Rmcmast, your address did not verify in SG’s USPS system so I called your home and spoke with your wife a minute or two ago. She straightened it out for me and your SG-II should be shipped out on Monday. If there is another problem, I will get a hold of you on Monday again.
___Good Luck

Wayne,
Thanks for calling to get that worked out! We have problems sometimes with the county road part. USPS wants "County Road " or "Highway ". That's what we get for living in the country. :)

bomber991 01-07-2008, 08:33 PM Well I guess I got mine first? I'll post a pic once I get it setup.
Hi Bomber991:
___D@mn that was fast. I just received USPS tracking numbers for all the gauges from ScanGauge just 2 hours ago!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Improbcat 01-07-2008, 08:49 PM Mine was here when I got home. I'm still experimenting with mounting locations, but have already wasted the evening driving around to test various functions.
Hi Improbcat:
___That makes 2!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Perfect Switch 01-07-2008, 09:05 PM Rec'd mine today. Sweet!
Hi Perfect Switch:

___Good Luck
___Wayne
FrankT 01-07-2008, 11:30 PM Hey, I got mine today!
Now to find the perfect mount in my car...
Thanks Wayne
Hi Frank:
___No problem!
___The only problem I see so far is with Rmcmast’s. The names and USPS numbers ScanGauge E-Mailed today me do not show him but someone who was not on any of my lists? I hope it was just a messed up E-Mail with the order going out as it was supposed to but I will have to find out in the morning. Sorry about that Rick but I will let you what is up first thing.
___Mike, remember yours is coming to my home first and then I have to reship it up to Canada so it will be a bit longer. Darin received his with an ~ 4 or 5 day delay at the Canadian border for whatever reason?
___Good Luck
___Wayne
seftonm 01-08-2008, 03:12 AM Thanks for doing this for me Wayne. Canada Customs likes to intercept a fraction (around 1/3 in my experience) of USPS packages coming into Canada so that they can collect any applicable taxes and duties. Not sure why it adds days to the transit time though, they must take their time to do whatever they do. I'll let you know when the ScanGauge arrives.
Laker 01-08-2008, 10:54 AM My Christmas gift was patiently waiting for me when I returned from work last evening. The evening was spent reading the manual. This morning I set it up and voila, my 17 mile trip to work reads 30.4 mpg (3 mo mpg avg 31.3). Great tool! Man I gotta work on my techniques.
Thanks again Wayne!
SL
Hi Laker:
___That is good news as well!
___Rmcmast, SG shipped yours out with the rest but sent me a track for another order from somebody else. If you want the USPS tracking number, I now have it. That one made a little nervous but hopefully it is in your mail box when you get home ;)
__FocusGuy77, I received and replied to your PM. If you want one, I can ship one of the 4 I should have on my doorstep today or tomorrow with Msefton’s as well?
___Good Luck

Wayne,
It didn't arrive today. Can you PM me the tracking number?
My wife took the FEH out tonight, so I wouldn't be playing with it anyway. :)
Thanks!

rmcmast 01-09-2008, 08:37 PM The new SGII arrived today! :woot:
Thanks again Wayne for setting all this up!
-- Rick
Hi Rick:
___Great news and I hope you enjoy it!
___Kwj and Rhill, did your SG-II’s arrive ok?
___I receives a few extra SG-II’s and Mike’s tonight so I have a few I can send out to anyone else right away. Mike, I will ship yours up to Canada in the morning!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
rmcmast 01-09-2008, 10:59 PM I got it hooked up and got things setup. Programmed my first XGauge, SOC. Works just as I would expect for the FEH. Took it out for a spin, and could EV once the car was warmed up. It stays in EV down to 39.9 and the ICE kicks in. It has to charge back up to around 42 to get back to EV.
Now to get an ethernet cable and get the old one chained to it!

RHill 01-09-2008, 11:24 PM <snip>
Rhill, did your SG-II arrive ok?
<snip>
___Wayne
It came today. : )
As I was getting the instruction manual out of the box, the display unit fell on the kitchen floor. The top line of the display works fine; the bottom line doesn't. : (
I tried it out in the car, and it appears to be working, I just can't see the bottom line of the display and go into the "More" functions.
Could you check and see what the tariff might be to get it fixed?
Again, thanks for setting the group buy up. RH
Hi RHill:
___Give ScanGauge a call first thing in the morning and tell them what happened and that you purchased it through the CleanMPG Group Buy this week. I do not know if they can even fix it but I know you will be sending it in. I am very sorry to hear about its fall to the floor :(
___Here is their number: 888-433-5664
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi Mike:
___I shipped your SG-II out to Canada today. I sent it out as a gift per the customs paperwork so hopefully it will not receive additional scrutiny holding up your SG-II from delivery. Please let me know when it arrives.
___Pharmprof, I called your home today and discussed your SG-II being hung up in the Milwaukee Post Office System per the tracking number. I past on to your wife what SG told me this afternoon. ScanGauge told me to have you visit your local post office and let them begin their own internal track with the tracking number you have. Let me know what they have to say and we can get a hold of ScanGauge again if need be. I have 4 more SG-II’s that I received with Mike’s so I can send you out another while the USPS is looking for your other one if need be.
___Good Luck

I called and told Ron at Linear Logic what happened and he said to send it in and they'd fix it under warranty. I told him that was might nice, considering I managed to fumble finger drop it.
Thanks again, RH
Hi RHill:
___That Ron is one hell of a guy, isn’t he!

___Wayne
Hi Chris F.:
___I received your payment today and your SG-II is packed up. I will ship it out in the morning and send you a tracking number before heading off to Detroit.
___Pharmprof, what did you hear from your local Post Office with the tracking number today?
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi FocusGuy:
___Your SG-II w/ X-Gauge was shipped this morning! I will get you a tracking number when I get back from Detroit as I had my parents drop it off at the USPS and I did not want to try and take down the number over the cel while on the train.
PS: Anyone ready for another SG-II w/ X-Gauge #3 in maybe a week or two?
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi All:
___The last 2 SG-II’s w/ X-Gauge over and above the Group Buy #2’s allotment were shipped this morning thus closing out Group Buy #1 and 2. Once those two arrive to their new owners (Hector and Jean), maybe we can offer another opportunity if there is any interest early next month?
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Thanks again for Group-Buy #2 Wayne. My ScanGauge is getting a lot of use already. I'm such a newby, but I did read the manual (amazingly) and figured out how to use X-Gauge to my advantage. I'm lovin it.
rweatherford 01-26-2008, 06:18 PM I'll be wanting to pick one of these up sometime, so I'll keep looking for a group buy.
rmcmast 01-27-2008, 04:39 PM This was my second SG which I bought on this GB. I finally got the old one hooked up this week, so I thought I'd post a picture:
http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/550/2_SGIIs_FEH.jpg
This was at the end of a 8 mile trip to get the car washed today. "cFE" is my abbreviation for current ave MPG. It's 56 degrees today and it's great to be able to EV again! I really like having ave MPG and instant MPG showing together.

skduffy 01-28-2008, 07:19 PM Count me in on the next group buy. I have recently received some birthday money and am looking forward to the SGII. It will be more useful then the remote starter:confused: gift certificate that my mom and stepfather got for me. I think when I call the place about the gift certificate, I will see if I can get something else of equal value. They are a local big name car audio place. I can only hope that they will be lenient.
My mom complains incessently about how often she has to buy gas, but she is willing to let the Pontiac G6 GT idle (3.5L V6) for about 25 minutes before she drives anywhere for about 6 out of 12 months. Lifetime MPG on that vehicle is 22.1 MPG
OK I am done with the venting. Maybe I will have to let my mom borrow the SGII to see the difference techniques makes. Then again she still believes that digital photos are "developed".....

Does she let it idle to let the heater warm up? Might suggest getting an engine block heater if that's the case. Think they run about $30 or so and from what it sounds like you just plug in your car about 3 hours before you leave and then when you turn it on the engine is already warmed up and the heater blows hot air.

Yeah, the first grandchild needs to be warm, you know. Of course, thats my kid and I just strap her into the carseat and start driving. Unless the windows need to be defrosted, of course. When the temperature gauge gets to the first notch away from cold then I turn the heat on. We just make sure she is bundled up though. I have been thinking about getting a block heater myself. The Elantra warms up within a mile and the new Rondo gets warmed up in maybe two miles. Of course, I know that they are not at the efficient temperature at that time. At one time I tried the let the car run to warm up, it seems that the Elantra does not seem to create a lot of heat idling. It is almost always faster to run the car to get heat.
Shaughn
Right Lane Cruiser 01-29-2008, 07:57 AM Shaughn, this is true of any vehicle -- idling is not only inefficient, it doesn't warm the car up nearly as fast as driving it will. Especially when the temperatures really get low. I've been out in temps that actually make the temp gauge DROP after a highway run!! A grill block is your best protection against this and will help your warm up as well.
skduffy 01-29-2008, 03:53 PM A grill block is your best protection against this and will help your warm up as well.
With the SGII I will finally be able to monitor coolant temps.
Shaughn
rweatherford 01-30-2008, 12:21 AM I just stick a small electric heater inside the car on the floorboard about 5-10 minutes before we leave for a short trip. This warms the inside up without using any fuel and the engine warms up quickly while driving and the heat can then be turned on before the car gets cold inside.
zef95 01-30-2008, 11:49 AM I'd be interested in another group buy also. I've been hesitating on the link to the left- is that the same group buy as discussed in this thread?
Hi Zef95:
___Yup. I wanted to make sure the final (2) SG-II’s made it to their new owners before we start the next one but if someone follows through on a purchase, the next Group Buy gets started if I like it or not ;)
___Good Luck
___Wayne
rweatherford 01-30-2008, 09:48 PM If we initiate a purchase to start the group buy and we decide that the group buy is taking too long, can we change our mind? When does the money change hands?
Thanks!
Hi Rweatehrford:
___You can change your mind at any time. If you believe you may not be able to wait for a Group Buy to complete, please please please purchase it from ScanGauge directly. Trying to reverse a Paypal transaction is not going to be a free exchange and they already take a $5.00 chunk out of the $150 Group Buy price as it is. Add another $5.00 charge for the reversal and $10.00 was wasted before anything was even transacted. That is a no win situation no matter which side of the fence you are standing on :(
___Good Luck
___Wayne
rweatherford 01-30-2008, 10:32 PM Ok I understand. I'll sit back and let someone else start it.
MikeN 01-31-2008, 10:38 AM If you dont want to wait... [link deleted]Amazon has it for $159 shipped.
skduffy 02-01-2008, 12:44 PM I haven't seen much activity here lately. I was curious if Group Buy 3 would be starting soon.
Hi Skduffy:
___I will start one tomorrow if that is ok with you ;)
___Remember however, I will be on a small marathon trip w/ a bunch of our fellow CleanMPG’ers across the continent on the 12th and I suspect it will fill while I am somewhere between Somewhere Flats and Nowhere Junction :D Just having a little fun with you is all.
___I will post it tomorrow morning.
___Good Luck
___Wayne
