About 48 million Americans still don't buckle up while driving. The profile is young males in pickup trucks. They need to, because the rollover hazard is greater.

Chuck;
There is a Big Push here to get the SUV/Trucks to Buckle up. Seems like that they feel like their size will protect them. However in the Stats for accidents that is Not-True at all. So Law Enforcement is making a major push to get Everyone including the Much-Larger-Vehicles to Buckle-Up.

What do they call this? Natural Selection? It's just a matter of paying the consequences for your actions. About a year ago there was a guy who wrote an article for his college paper about how seat belts were a conspiracy by left-wing safety nazis and that he'd never wear a seat belt to the day he died. A week later he was killed when the SUV he was riding in was in a rollover. The two other occupants had their seat belts on and were uninjured. That's just paying the consequences for your choices.

I'd call it reckless young guys that take a lot of chances. I did some stupid things in my 20s too.
Hi All:
___I am still in shock as to the reasons one would not. My father does not wear his belts about 80% of the time and will not for whatever reason? He was almost thrown through the windshield of a 60’s era Bug back in 63/64 in an accident too but simply will not get with the program unless I am in the car. At that point, we do not move unless the belts are attached.
___Good Luck

I have an aunt and uncle who will wear their seatbelts, but only if they are riding up front. In the back seat they just won't do it because they think they are safe. Nevermind that they could still be thrown under the car in a roll over, kill the people in front of them on their way by in a head-on, or otherwise injured in a less severe collision that would not have phased them if they had been strapped in. If I were to drive without my belt on I would feel utterly naked.

I do wear my belts because it's the law in Indiana. When I was 16 I had an experience that almost turned me the other way. I had an accident 4 months after I got my liscence. I was driving my dad's '78 Honda Civic and, according to police, it rolled end over end at least once and sideways 2-4 times. I was not wearing my seatbelt and escaped with no injuries whatsoever. The next day when we went to clean out the car, I tried to sit in the seat where the seatbelt would have held me, and the roof was caved in to where my neck would have been shortened by several inches. If I had been wearing my belt I would have been either killed or permanently injured. Still, I wear my belts.

If you recall the crash that killed Princess Diana, there were four in the car. Only the bodyguard in the right front seat survived. He was the only one wearing a seatbelt. Since is was gong as fast as 90mph, it was no guarantee, but the rest did not have a chance. :(

I had my garage door opener go flying out my window in a really hard slalom at an autocross one time. Ever since then, I've kept my door opener in the glove box. Only takes another second to get to it, and I don't have to worry about it flying out of the car, or worse yet, flying in my face if something happens.
