Ok, I haven't posted on this before but I have a problem, may be something I have yet to configure, and I don't know if this is effecting my mpg or not-- who knows? (BTW, I was working on a run-on sentence for the occasion.)
Anyway, I am at times getting very weird mph max figures. Usually something like 93 mph.
I can assure you that I have never even driven 93 mph EVER before or during hypermiling.
So what gives?

I haven't experienced that, but I'm not watching the MPH reading either. How long does it last? If it's brief, I like hateful's guess. If it lingers, has your analog speedometer done the same (does it read 93 mph as well)?

I would double and triple check the MPH offset setting. Being off by just 2 MPH can cause some large deltas on the MPG reading.
The problem is that it's not a linear gauge. I keep mine with no offset for my daily commute which is mostly below 50 MPH, but when I have to go to Sacramento I adjust it to +2% because of the higher speeds I will hit on long downhill sections of I-80.
If I don't do that +2% offset during that time my whole tank reading goes a little wonky.

It's not on any specific surface, afaik. I don't drive (usually) on dirt or gravel roads.
I have never set the mph offset and don't really know how to do this!
If someone could splain this in English??

More -> Setup -> Speed
This affects both speed and miles traveled. If it's reading too high, put in a negative offset; if it's too low, make it positive.
I also have found a non-linearity, but based on tank fill. I use -1% for the first half, then go to -2% for the second half of the tank, to keep it within 1 mile of the odometer / trip meter. If the SG starts reading higher than the odo, i'll make it more negative. If it's reading lower than the odo, i'll make it less negative, more positive.
