View Full Version : MiEV will clean up
cuchulain 10-24-2007, 01:51 AM From the Sun Newspaper in the UK.
As there is a large demand for EVs in London, free parking, reduced congestion charges etc.

They are running behind Subaru EV which already have 20 EVs testing in TEPCO in Tokyo.
Good Luck

Hi Andrew:
___I am hoping Mitsubishi will come forth with some kind of announcement at the 40th Tokyo Auto show other then the showing of the Miev Sport. I have been inside Mitsubishi’s media site for more then a few hours the past three days and am just waiting for some kind of actual release instead of the paper tigers they have pushed the past 4 years including the beautiful Colt EV all the way to the latest Sport Miev.

Sledge 10-24-2007, 08:24 AM Where's the Subaru R1e?

Right Lane Cruiser 10-24-2007, 08:45 AM 80mi would easily cover any normal day's driving for me -- now we just need availability and LOW price.

I have not found an English Link yet but release date of MiEV is brought forward to 2009,
Rough translation of
http://autos.yahoo.co.jp/news/detail.html?category=3&id=20071025-00000010-nkn-ind
Today (10/24) it was announced by the President of Mitsubishi Motors that they will bring forward the release date for the MieV to 2009. For the first year of production they plan to sell 1000 cars. The price after subtracting the EV subsidy will be 2-2.5million Yen.
As the development is going smoothly they are able to bring forward the release date from 2010 to 2009. In the future they also plan to sell abroad firstly in Europe and have also begun to evaluate the marketplace.
(Reading this the release of the first 1000 is Japan only)
Good Luck

:D
Hi Andrew:
___I have not yet seen your translation on Mitsubishi’s press site or the Japanese English Daily’s yet but hopefully a press release will come across the wires tonight?
___Here is the base write-up I have built and collected data for so far.
Mitsubishi MiEV and MiEV Sport
The i-MiEV inherits the advantages of its base model “i”, which means that the modifications required to turn the base vehicle into an EV were kept to a minimum. When starting out on the design of the i-MiEV, the intention was to make it an EV capable of covering a sufficient per-charge distance for daily use while offering sufficient power for increased performance.

cuchulain 10-24-2007, 10:43 PM Looks good to me.
Anyway the report appeared in Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun and was picked up by Yahoo Auto.
It looks to be an interview that took place yesterday(Jap. time).
The specs are for the test model which is under evaluation by Japanese utlilities. (only a few as yet). The fleet monitor version range of 160km seems more likely as this is the version on display at the motorshow.
Larger GP-Yuasa batteries, 10% reduction in weight of motor and 30% smaller inverter gives it a 160km range.
Good Luck

cuchulain 10-25-2007, 05:30 AM [QUOTE=Sledge;51395]Where's the Subaru R1e?
I prefer the G4e concept myself, 200km range. Fuji Heavy (Subaru) were reported as saying their EV will be released in 2010 (whether R1e or G4e something?)
http://motorshow.yahoo.co.jp/car_preview/detail.html?id=yjms07cpSJ01&img=5
The R1e was last seen being smoked by a Daihatsu Copen EV-R in a fairly quiet EV race

cuchulain 10-27-2007, 12:16 AM I doubt you will see a formal announcement on M-site, but it was picked up here
http://www.sharewatch.com/story.php?storynumber=68861
Apparently Pres. Masuko drives the iMiEV, when he is in Tokyo and gets a lot of attention.

Hi Andrew:
___That is good enough for me to write something up for possibly tomorrow evening or Sunday’s Home Page News. Thanks for the link as there is still nothing on Mitsubishi’s internal site about moving up the launch date or even a mention other then saying the Sport was being shown in Tokyo :(

BailOut 11-05-2007, 11:09 PM I'm curious... how did they calculate CO2 emissions of 47 g/km for an EV? Is it assuming it is charged with electricity from dirt burners?
cuchulain 11-06-2007, 09:05 AM I am not sure where they got this exact figure as we do not know the AC or DC Wh/km but I presume the CO2 comes from the TEPCO release at 372g/kWh for their power mix NG/nuclear in 2005.
(In Japanese)

cuchulain 11-06-2007, 08:47 PM This is a better link in English
http://www.japannuclear.com/pressroom/pressreleases/49-ncedCLTnhMZv388mDGqo/view
As the battery AC(at the plug)-DC (at the wheel) is probably about 80% efficient this would give a 372/0.8 g-CO2/kWh to 465gCO2/kWh-DC(at the wheel) which would put the DC efficiency at about 101Wh/km or 160Wh/m which seems reasonable for a small EV.
Of course the problem is even at 60% nuclear utilisation in Japan there are plenty of dirt burners (NG).
Good Luck

cuchulain 03-16-2008, 09:59 AM Just an update but
It was reported in FujiSankei Business that Mitsubishi MiEV will undergo testing at an electrical utility company in the U.S. within the year, with full introduction by 2012.
Rollout in Japan is 2009 for businesses with a full rollout to the public in 2010.
Good Luck

Hi Andrew:
___We will keep our eyes and ears open for this one ;) When these hit Europe, I wonder how they are going to handle the taxation given the governments that be make ~ $3 - $5.00 per in taxes off of each gallon purchased . Not only is the EV far more efficient but without consuming fuel at all, it will be interesting to see how the Europeans handle the CO2 reduction promotion as well as taxation.

cuchulain 03-16-2008, 11:46 PM The gasoline "i" maybe sooner but the EV was 2012 which seems a bit late.

cuchulain 05-18-2008, 08:42 AM Some more about testing of MiEV on GCC.
Could not get the original conference paper
http://www.greencarcongress.com/2008/05/the-battery-pac.html
I was glad to see the fast charge test (2.5C) had no adverse effect on battery life.
There was also a report that the range goal is now 200km or 125miles.
Good Luck
Andrew
