I got a little bored so I decided to figure out how much money I have saved on gas since I started to get the hang of driving for efficiency. This covers all driving that I have done since the middle of March. 1889 miles, four tanks. All I did was compare what I actually spent to what I would have spent on each tank if I had driven the same mileage at the EPA highway rating of 32mpg. The results are pretty good! The way the math works out, I saved myself at least $25. At the combined rating of 28.5mpg that number is $45, or a bit more than I paid for my last tank of gas.

If the raw FE numbers aren't enough to encourage you, try this exercise for your last month or two worth of driving. Even if you are just a modest 5-10% over the EPA rating like me you will feel better :)

**EDIT**
Finding out how many gallons you save is kind of interesting, too. In my case it was about 8.8 gallons saved vs. driving at the highway rating, and over 16 gallons saved vs. if I just drove at the combined rating.

$397 in the (exactly, on the 9th) 1 year I've had the HAH. Used to have a 96 Cavalier, ~28mpg.

I used $2.50/gal (12 month moving average in Baltimore) and 20Kmiles driven.

159gal saved, or 3100lb less CO2 in the air.

its hard to judge, i guess the best way to put it is, my tank last 2 weeks longer than it used to and I don't even care about gas prices even more. Caring about their own driving ability is much more important don't you think?

O what a story. It would be awsome if there wasnt a wife involved in it.

A year ago I was hypermiling the Ranger for what it was worth. And it wasnt worth much at all. Wife was driving her 99 Escort. We both work in Tulsa and both running our cars back and forth every day.

May of 05 we buy the Accord. In the face of riseing gas prices we agree to start riding in together in the new Accord. This makes both of ours days drasicly longer. Hers takes the worst hit at a 1.5 hour gain in time from the time we leave the house until we get home. Hers hour are much better than mine.

So ive figured this at 11 months so the numbers are a bit light.

In the Ranger I would have burned about 20 gal. a week at @ 2.50 per. = $50.00 x 4 for the month = $200.00 x 11 = $2200 min. we saved by carpooling if you will. This a conservity estmate. Now you can throw the Civic into the mix that we drive in atleast 25% of the time and the savings grows a bit more.

There would be alot more savings if the wife didnt drive at all.
