This seems like an appropriate place for me to chime in with my first post. I began “lurking” on GH last fall while researching the purchase of my first hybrid. I’ve been following the technology with great interest for years, but was spurred to action by the theft of my ’94 Civic last September. Given that I was suddenly forced to get a new car, the time seemed right for a hybrid.

I took delivery of my 2006 HCH (Magnetic Pearl with Navi) in late December. I discovered cleanmpg.com in February and have been a regular and devoted reader of these forums ever since. While I’m sure all of us lurkers have our reasons not to post, mine was due mainly to the fact that I didn’t know what the heck I was talking about. I read a post in GH early on from xcel that was gently chiding some of the less experience posters to take care before offering too much advice, and quite frankly, I thought that observation was on the mark. Therefore, I read, learned and practiced, always posting my mileage and comments in the mileage database at GH. Four months later, I can proudly say that I have achieved "hypermiler" status, averaging 52.7mpg over 6000 miles. My last tank was 60.8 mpg. This is an accomplishment I directly attribute to all I’ve learned on these forums. In particular, I have to credit xcel & Delta Flyer among others for tons of really excellent advice.

Bottom line: this site is an invaluable resource for those of us who care about hybrids, fuel conservation and the environment. Even if we aren’t posting and contributing, please know that there are a lot of us out there who are taking what is posted on this site to heart, and are grateful for the information.

Thanks for the encouragement. Hearing that the site is useful to someone makes all the work we put in to it worth it.

Hi HCH2LA:

___I don’t think my head can get any bigger after reading your post but thank you ;) As Tom posted, the FE you are receiving now is exactly what this site is about and I want to personally thank you for pushing the envelope to not only beat the EPA but to receiving 60 + over entire tank! As you probably already know, very few in the world will ever achieve the level of FE you are receiving now no matter what they drive but if you can help one other HCH-II or Prius II pilot nail the illustrious 60 + mpg segment or tank, they may help someone else do the same, and so on, and son on. Pretty soon, our oil dependence goes away and our overall GHG and SMOG related emissions fall to a much lower level so as to give us more time to find that next transportation solution for the betterment of all!

___In the mean time, I hope you can contribute as Mark, Tarabell, and Terry have done with their HCH-II’s and their participation in pushing the HCH-II’s FE. It is only a matter of time and 60 mpg tanks will become more the norm rather then the exception for all of you throughout the summer months ;)

___Good Luck and congrats on your first 60 + mpg tank!

___Wayne
