View Full Version : Do you experience more bad drivers as an hour approaches?

There is another thread asking about drivers being worse on Mondays and it started me thinking. And as luck would have it, I left the house early today so as I was approaching the business area 10 minutes before, instead of 10 minutes after, seven. As the clock reached about 6:55, I noticed a lot more people getting pushy, tailgating, and generally looking a bit more in a hurry and I realized they probably were either late or about to be late.

Now when I'm later apulling in, I usually see a few fast movers but otherwise mostly average (not to suggest good), driving.

Anybody else having this experience? Are drivers near the beginning of their hour/half-hour shifts worse that those in between?

I never thought of this

I was thinking the same thing when i saw the monday thread. If I leave at a different time (off by 10-15 mins) than usual I encounter a whole different mentality of drivers. Certain times are really full of road ragers but I haven't really paid attention to the times of day.

That makes sense - folks usually have appointments/work/activities starting on hours and half-hours. Crazy how that works.

Now it'd be interesting to see whether or not more accidents occur around those times. :)

If I leave my house about 6:45, I get to the toll plaza about 6:55-7:00. I may be behind 2-3 cars. This gets me to work at 7:10-7:15. If I leave closer to 7:00, I hit heavy traffic at the toll plaza and have to hurry to get to work at 7:30.

For some reason, the toll plaza brings out the worst in drivers. Lane switching, swerving, etc. It's a big cluster **** of unmerging and remerging, with an added cost of $0.50.

This is a great observation, and I do notice it. There are little pockets of time around the top of the hour where the driving just sucks.

Great question. And the answer is ABSOLUTELY.

My drive in to downtown is 30 minutes. If I leave at 8:30, it's mayhem. If I leave at 8:45, noticeably better.

Good Question! I've also noticed this too. I don't understand why some drivers take such big risks just to save a minute or even two seconds. Being late to work is one thing, but putting your life, your vehicle and others at risk of a collision is completely pointless. It just beats my mind into submission.

My mom leaves work at 5:30 when the traffic is lighter/better, instead of at 5:00 when she is supposed to leave.

YES, I have noticed this ! And I would add, it is was very noticable when i have experienced this. It is for the same reason I go for lunch mostly at 12h30 or 13h15 in order to avoid the 11h55 to 12h05 and 12h55 to 13h05 trafic.
