View Full Version : My SG2, FCD, & the MPG Challenge 2007

I don't know exactly where to put this, since it isn't really technical information, but since it pertains mainly to my SG2, I'll put it here. Moderators, feel free to move it if you want :)

There has been a suggestion recently, in another forum, that my SG2 was tampered with just before the MPG Challenge at HF2007. I just want to set the record straight.

The only person who messed up my SG2 was *me* :o What happened:

On July 1, I filled my gas tank, but I had to use a different pump than my usual one, & for one reason or another, I wound up under-filling my tank. It was in the weeks following this fill that I saw my first 50+mpg commutes  I think I posted on the Daily Grind around that time that I was afraid those numbers were too optimistic (but I'm too lazy to go looking for the link :p)

Then on July 18, I filled up again, at my regular pump, & my mileage for that tank was quite a bit lower than for the July 1 tank. That was the tank that took me to, through, & home from HF2007.

The 2 fill-ups since that July 18 tank have been more line with what I've come to expect, & have brought the readings on my SG2 & FCD closer together - there is now less than 1mpg difference between the two, with the SG2 reading higher.

As for someone tampering with my SG2 at HF2007, no one had access to my car when I wasn't there. Living in Milwaukee has made me cultivate the habit of automatically locking it when I get out (plus, I like to make the horn beep ;)). I apologize if my ineptitude made for less than accurate readings, but nobody screwed up my SG2 but *ME*.

Thanks for clearing this up and confirming that the Scangauge in your vehicle was your own, Debbie. I was pretty sure we didn't install one of the competition's Scangauges for your MPG run.

(For those that don't know, for the Hybridfest MPG Challenge we temporarily installed Scangauges for those Prius folks who were pretty confident that they would "max out" their stock Prius MPG meter.)

Yikes.

If you want I can back solve the MPG from your trip counters.

I'd need 4 things to run the calc:

Trip counter's Miles readout before leaving the starting line of the challenge
Trip counter's Miles readout as soon as you crossed the finish line.
Same trip counter's Average MPG readout before leaving the starting line of the challenge
Same trip counter's Average MPG readout as soon as you crossed the finish line.

It's a lot of information, but if you have it, I could give you your number.

Also I posted a calibration spreadsheet for SGII. It will help you bring SGII's MPG readout as close to the factory MPG readout as you care to get it.
