Just curious how much I would benefit from a block heater. I live in NJ. I drive a 2006 Scion XB. On cold /winter days my car takes for ever to warm up. Where do I look for one and, how much should it cost and where could i have it installed?

Thanks in advance for any help!

There is the possibility that the Scion xB can be fitted with the Prius block heater

I got mine at Metro TPN (http://www.metrotpn.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=191&SearchText=block+heater) (an online retailer).

I've calculated my savings to be between 3-5oz of gas per use in the dead of summer. Your increase may be more substantial depending on your commute. Since I'm only 3 miles from the highway, I would heat up pretty quick anyway. I wouldn't be too surprised if you managed to save 5-10 oz in the Winter.

On the Prius the receiving hole for the block heater is on the left-lower-rear quadrant of the engine block where left is driver-side, and front is where the headlights are.. For me, if I'm under the Prius, it's just beyond the exhaust ports (think thats what those were).

That's all assuming that the engines are as similar as I believe them to be.

Check on the Yaris as well. Canada makes the block heaters, and they don't get Scions. Think they were made specifically for the US market. But the Yaris should have the EXACT engine that the Scion does.

CoasterToaster, I lived in NJ (Cliffside Park) during the blizzard of '96, and mpg aside my Toyota Tercel probably would have personally thanked me if I had not subjected her to that misery. :)

I'm still using as we speak even with my garage temps around 100. Why not? :). I'm gonna use as few ounces of that devil juice as I can ;)
