View Full Version : A Probably Dumb Scangauge Question

Actually THREE probably dumb questions, all pertaining to using SGII in a MT 2003 Subaru:

(1) When decelerating in gear ICE-ON it shows a fuel flow of 0.2gph even though the ICE should be in fuel cutoff mode and I understand why: air is still flowing through the engine and the SGII calculates fuel usage from air flow by assuming a 14:1 mixture. My question is: when calculating AVG MPG's, is the SGII using this 0.2gph to determine fuel usage and if so wouldn't its values for AVG MPG be low?

(2) When coasting in neutral ICE-OFF (ignition ON) it STILL shows 0.2gph flow. How does this happen? There should be no flow through the ICE in this situation. The AVG MPG does update when I am doing this.

(3) Same as (1), is it using this 0.2gph to determing fuel usage?

I put these questions on the SG website several days ago and didn't get answers yet.

Granted 0.2gph is probably 150-300mpg depending on my speed. But I'm working pretty hard here and it would be nice to see the advantage of FAS over coasting in neutral ICE-ON (which also shows about 0.2gph).

Hi Lightfoot:

___I will take a shot …

(1) You got it. Yes, that small amount of fuel consumed is included in the cumulative per the aFCD Current, Today, Previous Day and Tank. The SG-II is calibrated after every fill so it takes your driving habits into account with each Fuel Cut event vs. everything else you do. It is not perfect but in some cases, closer then any of us could possibly have imagined!

(2) You have your SG-II setup for Hybrid under the Fuel setting correct? Second item is there is a short period of time before the SG-II picks up via OBD-II that the ICE is off. Upwards of 5 seconds depending on the car. Not sure about your Subaru however? The other item is there is a Subaru hack for the SG-II so that it works properly. Read the SG-II Review comments as it was posted there a few weeks ago.

(3) Yes, it is. Along with the VSS for speed/distance allows an MPG to be calculated.

___I hope that helps?

___Good Luck
