Takashi Sudo, a student of Osaka Sangyo University sits on the Oxyride racer powered by Matsushida Electric Industrial 192 AA-size dry cell batteries after it made a new world record at a test course at Shirosato town in Ibaraki prefecture, 100km northeast of Tokyo.

SHIROSATO, Japan - A group of Japanese students ran a dry cell-powered vehicle at an average speed of 105.95 kilometres (65.83 miles) per hour Saturday to make the Guinness Book of World Records.

The car, powered by 192 Matsushida Oxyride AA dry-cell batteries, hit a top speed of 122.00 kph (75.81 mph) during time trials here in the presence of a Japanese agent for Guinness.

OK. Too bad Oxyride batteries are upgraded single-use alkaline batteries. This was basically a publicity stunt to prove how powerful the batteries are.
