Hi All:
___A quick note as I know Eric wanted some info as to the success or failures of our own little event.
http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/565/FE_Clinics.jpgI was a bit disorganized at first given the signup sheet should have been at the registration tables vs. at our booth. That will definitely be taken care of well before HF2008 even begins. The launch site was too far from the main road and some got lost on the way. Fortunately, Justin parked his Insight at the entrance and then everyone appeared to find their way afterwards. We had maps to the site at our booth after the fact but will have maps to both the clinics and the course in large quantities at the registration tables next year. The drivers’ meeting was a bit short and sweet as I tried to talk to most individually vs. the group 2 days prior. With the clinic maps in hand and the quick 2 lengths of the box for the instructor and 6 lengths of the box for the student with the instructor in the driver’s seat, I thought that went pretty well. I think I will have Chuck handling the students and their cars next year (giving them the low down on what they will be performing and such) and one or two non-instructor volunteers to handle the tire pressure checks while we are all out on the clinic course. If it were not for Bob (HCH-II), Ed (HCH-II), Debbie (FEH) and Rich (FEH) to help, it would have been a lot tougher to get everybody moving through the setup line and then back out with an instructor on the clinic. Thank you all for stepping up. The clinic launch site had some issues as I spoke with the lady at the front desk about 2 months prior for permission. Apparently, that permission was not passed on and I had an interesting discussion with a local Park Ranger because of it. Afterwards, I spoke with the head of the Park’s department and she thought we were plugging in PHEV’s (many of us had a laugh after we heard that one :D) when we were only plugging in (2) air compressors for tire pressure checks. One of the Insight instructors backed out to get home early and that one bunched us up a bit. We had all the Prius drivers we needed (we will probably need more next year ;)) and I even took out 2 Prius-I and 2 Prius-II students. Justin was the real swing guy taking both Prius and Insight drivers out whenever they appeared. I think we will setup maybe 8 - 10 chairs under the canopy so those waiting to head out have a place to sit down and enjoy the gathering similar to the way the FE Challenge turned out.
___To those that were there, please add your critiques and suggestions afterwards. Oh and another kudo. Rich (Pravus Prime) stepped up to take a HiHy driver and family out. I was going to take them out myself but was buried with Prius-I and II drivers myself. Thank you Rich.
___Overall, it went pretty good given the numbers of participants and results but next year, I think the Hypermiling clinics should be a bit more inline with HF2008 vs. a side bar gathering. Again, that was my fault but learning did occur and next years should be a much better experience for the clinic students and instructors. I hope?
___We had 26 students sign up for the clinic. I missed a few of the results but overall, we had 18 clinic FE numbers reported back from the ~ 25 students who appeared.
