View Full Version : PodTech on ScanGauge
tarabell 07-24-2007, 12:14 PM Ron DeLong is a manager at LinearLOGIC and the brains behind ScanGauge, a 3-in-1 computer that reads and displays information about your car such as fuel economy, engine load, average speed and more. The device was quite popular at this past weekend's Hybridfest in Madison, Wisc., helping many hypermilers and other drivers achieve maximum fuel efficiency during the MPGChallenge, sponsored by CleanMPG.com.

Hi Tarabell:
___Great find and Ron did a great interview! Our booth was right next to his and he sold everything he brought by early Sunday afternoon IIRC. Again, great find and great interview by Ron.
___CleanMPG did not sponsor the FE Challenge directly but we sure were well represented :D
___Good Luck

tbaleno 07-24-2007, 02:18 PM I made a comment. Unfortunately it will cause them to remove the think to our site, but having incorrect information could lead to confusion.
We can't have people thinking we sponsored it and members of the site won most divisions.
ericbecky 07-24-2007, 04:24 PM Hey did you notice that you can click on "Share" and this gives you the ability to copy the video player and add it to your own site?
Then the video could reside here on clean mpg and people do not have to be directed away from ClenMPG to see it.
I know Matt is going to do some more podcasts ike this and I plan to add them to our site.
Do you guys have the ability to add them somewhere here on CleanMPG?
tbaleno 07-24-2007, 04:37 PM It requires javascript which is kind of part of html which isn't allowed in posts. Though if we could find a place to put it that would be appropriate we could probably stick it on a page some where.
Edit: I stuck it in the forum header.
ericbecky 07-24-2007, 06:44 PM Hey, maybe we should do that for the other hypermiling podcast he had too. that was a good piece. (And I'm not saying that just because I'm in it.)
Pravus Prime 07-24-2007, 06:47 PM Cool, nice interview. Seems like a nifty device. :D
WriConsult 07-24-2007, 07:45 PM Great interview. In the discussion of future improvements, I noticed the comments about enhanced hybrid and battery related information. Does this mean that FEH owners (or possible future ones like myself) will soon be able to find out their SoC through the SG? As I understand it, the FEH currently only makes this info available through the optional (and expensive) nav system.
Meanwhile, the biggest change I'd ask for in a future ScanGauge change would be the ability to aFCD along with the other stats. I'm finding that much of the time I would like to watch just the aFCD, except I have to switch it to gauge mode if I'm doing a lot of FASes, so that I can keep an eye on my battery voltage. I've come close to not being able to restart a couple of times.

Actually, there's a current discussion, someone found the codes for SOC, so it looks like it may be soon to find SOC for the FEH. There's also mention of a flash update to have that part of the standard SGII at no extra charge.
Hi Wriconsult:
___Yes, SoC will be a new parameter added for hybrids with the updates looking forward.
___Good Luck

The last I talked to Ron on Sunday, he said he hopes to have the software glitch fixed in the next week. He would then begin accepting SG2's for re-flashing. I think he also mentioned getting a form to fill out and send in along with the SG. Checking the SG site or sending an email first would be a good idea. The only problem: You will have to give up you SG2 for a week or so.:(

link?
Hi Tom:
___Let us add the Podcast to the ScanGuage II review if you can? To bad only 7 mpg is shown in the graphic :(
___Good Luck
___Wayne
tbaleno 07-25-2007, 11:34 AM I won't do that. It might imply that the audio is part of our review and people might overlook the work of podtech. The way it is now, everyone will find it easily and can see who produced it easily, and get a good idea of what a scangauge is when they come to this forum.
