OK, so I will admit feeling bad about not making it to HF2007 this year. :(

... But, I do intend to make the trip for 2008.

And that got me thinking...
... is there a means of seeing the challenge lineup for each division? I am itching to enter the competition next year (at least just for giggles), and I do have the opportunity to do it with a Prius or HCH-II.
Doing it with a Prius means that I will be seriously outclassed by the many excellent Prius Pilots, so I believe the pool of Gen 2 Prius is pretty large already in 2007 being even larger and more mature in 2008.

That brings me to the other division. Is there an easy way to determine how large is the Division 3? More specifically what I would like to know is how many HCH-II's are likely to compete this year.

Hi there,

We don't have any way of knowing how many cars in each Division will compete until the Challenge is full -- it's first come, first served. This year, all but four of our drivers were driving either a Prius-2G or an Insight, and no one at all was in the "sedan" category that included Camrys and Accord Hybrids. It's all left to chance -- whatever the first 35 people to sign up happen to want to drive! :-)

The winners in the six divisions:

Division 1 (Honda Insight)
William Kinney of Kennewick, WA 168 MPG, (223% over EPA estimate of 52 MPG) driving a 2005 Honda Insight.

Division 2 (’04-’07 Toyota Prius)
Jerad Parish of Madison, WI, 110 MPG (139% over EPA estimate of 46 MPG) driving a 2005 Toyota Prius.

Division 3 (Civic Hybrid, ’00-’03 Toyota Prius)
Michael Beres of Free Soil, MI, 63 MPG (62% over EPA estimate of 41 MPG) driving a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid.

Division 4 (Mercury Mariner Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Lexus RX 400h, Saturn VUE Green Line Hybrid, Chevy Silverado Hybrid)

Wow. So. there was at least one entry in the Division 3 this year. Nice.

But... is it true then that there's a hard limit of 35 people then?
That could be a problem, unless we limit how many people can advance register for each division and only allow more if free space from other "emptier" divisions is available. Correct?

Then again, maybe , am missing an important detail or two.
