Not exactly a suprize, but a Norfolk Virgina plant (builds F150?) is closing in a couple of years. There are no manufacturing jobs like it in a 300-mile radius. Choice are take a substantial cut in pay, relocate, retire early.

Hi Chuck:
___The Domestics are not only closing a few plants here and there but all over the country! The Ranger assembly plant in MN. is heading the way of the DoDo as well :(
Reuter’s:
Ford Motor Co. said on Thursday it plans to shutter its St. Paul, Minn., and Norfolk, Va., assembly plants by 2008 as part of the automaker's broader restructuring plan.
The announcement affects more than 4,300 people employed at both the plants.
Ford's restructuring plan, dubbed "Way Forward," calls for closing 14 plants, including seven assembly plants, and slashing up to 30,000 blue-collar jobs. It is designed to reverse a $1.6 billion loss last year in the company's North American operations.
Local United Auto Workers union officials had told Reuters earlier that the plants were going to be closed.
The Minnesota assembly plant, which employs 1,750 hourly and 135 salaried workers, builds Ranger pickups, which have seen demand decline sharply in recent years.___Good Luck to all employees who will soon be affected by this ever larger Automotive restructuring here in the US …
