What are the significant differences between versions I and II?

They seem to be doing the same thing... Does the ver. II only
add support for more cars that were not supported in version I?

There should be no difference in which cars they support. Functionally, they're nearly identical. Version 2 has a smaller box, though the display is the same size. It also allows the backlight color to be changed, whereas the first gen had only orange. The biggest theoretical advantage to V2 is that supposedly they expect to offer data logging with it. I say theoretical because it's been on the rumor wire for months.

I think the biggest advantage of the SG2 is it's ability to keep track of mileage for a whole tank where #1 can only track 1 day's worth.

V1 can do that too. It tracks data for the current trip, current day, previous day, and tank. Those are among the few things I miss after converting to Can-View. (I have SG I.)

Hi SonyHome:

___I do not fault you one bit wrt picking up an SG-I “if” you can find one used for a bargain. On the other hand, when you have to stare at the ugly pig for the next 100,000 miles, you may have wished you had chosen a tad more “wisely” I have an SG-I in the Ranger and SG-II’s in everything else because the Ranger is a trash-landscape truck for all-intents and purposes and the SG-I fits its utility and appearances most of the time ;) I wouldn’t want to drive with an SG-I in the Accord or other newer and nicer looking vehicle because it is one ungainly looking SOB if you catch my drift. The screen is not larger, the box surrounding the LCD is larger and it is not a pretty site. Just make sure the SG-I can be purchased for a really good used price or it is not worth the price of admission considering the graceless aesthetics.

___Good Luck

BTW, I got the SG-1 and it's fine... So was the price $.

It came with the butt ugly 70's decal stripped off, so now it's just a black box. A bigger and deeper box than I care for though.

That said the 1st thing I did is unscrew it to see the inside. It's mostly air :)

If I decide to make it permanent in the CR-V, it'll either be integrated in the dash via some clever exacto knife crafting, hence no box, or by replacing the box with a newer smarter one.

Cheers!

That's the nice thing about the SG-1, it's hard to fee bad about mutilating the case. I've had all kinds of problems with velcro and adhesives failing in the heat, leaving my SG lying on the floor of the car. I finally decided to try again with the dual-lock plus a couple of screws to help the adhesive along.

3M doublesided foam tape should stay put...
Velcro glue melts.
