So we took the family minivan, a 2001 Honda Odyssey, to Boston, about 475 miles each way plus some while there. This car is typically used around town to shuttle the kids to various activities, get groceries, etc, in other words, mostly city driving. Average mpg is about 16-17. I recently pumped up the tires from stock 35 psi to 40. Using my scangauge and with careful driving (mainly DWB, but few other techniques, as the car is automatic and the trip was almost all highway), I achieved the following 3 tanks: 27.6, 26.6, and 28.7! Total miles driven: 1090, total gallons: 39.448, trip mpg: 27.63. Woohoo!! :Banane06:

Hi Mike:

___That was indeed excellent FE from that size of a vehicle and it was probably loaded with your children and luggage correct? Even better on a mpg/person basis as well as the total weight yet you still received close to what many do in sub-compacts day in and day out!

___Excellent string of tanks and thanks for sharing.

___Good Luck

Thanks. Yes, it was loaded w/ wife and two kids, plus about 5 suitcases PACKED with clothes and all manner of other vacation detritus. :D I later remembered I used DWL for significant stretches, and drove mostly without A/C. The van is capable of 40 mpg on flat terrain at 55 mph, unfortunately the Northeast is anything but, especially around lower NY.

Nicely done! I just returned from a 2000 mile trip and got 24 from my '04 Oddy, so I'm impressed at your numbers. Good job!
