I've been tracking my vehicle's fuel economy of fueleconomy.gov for almost 3 years now, surprisingly I always seem to have lower economy than the EPA rating AND the user community. I'm hoping to find ways to increase the economy, I'd like to see 32 MPG out of the Saturn and 20MPG out of my 4Runner. Below is a real chart of my fuel economy since 2004.

The vehicles:

1996 Saturn SL2 1.9l DOHC (Commuter):

What kind of commute do you have.

Flat...5-6 miles each way. Just doing a lot more coasting and getting up to speed I think i've increased my efficiency.

If you have lights I might suggest not trying to reach the speed limit between them. Often times you don't have enough time for a good coast once you do. Often in my drive the speed limit is 45 and I can only get to about 35 before I have to start coasting.

Also, if you have the distance try pulse and gliding. Bring the car up to a max speed (your choice here) then allow yourself to coast down to a set lower speed (your choice as well). Keep repeating this and it might help you get a few more mpg.
