I'm watching the same trend here. This morning I heard that NPR story on $2.62 gas this summer, which is total BS. Maybe $3.62. Or in the case of Franklin, TN $262.999.

I have been watching it for the past couple of weeks to see what's going on nationally and it's just getting redder and redder. It looks like some places spiked today (like so cal) and the scale now goes up to 3.04 but it was under 3 yesterday.

Laugh because I'm glad it'll dent your wallet if you don't smarten up NOW.

Tiger, it's about the same in Dallas.

I remember a common response of the jumbo SUV apologists boasting they could afford it and those of us driving compact cars did not have the money. I'd bet that many of those guys bantering such nonsense are maxing their credit cards and borrowing against their retirement. :p

I'll let you guys know how much I pay for it today. I've been on empty for about 20 miles now so I guess I'm due for a fill up. I'm expecting $35 or so out of my pocket for the fill up.

You are exactly correct. I listen to the co-workers every day now crying about those $60.00-$75.00 fill ups. :) Oh, I should mention that their comments to me are. I'm not going to drive one of those "Sissy-Little-Toys" just to save some gas. I'll just cut back somewhere else. I'm not giving up my SUV/TRUCK.

I just made a very similar post at GH about SUV poseurs that bragged about having money to burn - we did not. It's not good to see these "real men" cry. :p

Thing is, cars have been capable of such since the mid-70s and it's been easier with each year to build them....but the general public has wanted to add 1,000 pounds to the average car and go from0 to 60mph in under 10 seconds - not 15.
