With FE like that, I guess you'd only need to carry a few spare ounces of petrol in a hip flask to get you to a gas station when you do run out. Nice job.

yep, ran out. 795.4 miles at 76.6 mpg. and a quart wont make it run right. it needed a full gallon to get back to normal.

great work laurie!

Hi Laurie:

___A bit OT but can you recommend a good Consumer based digital camera for screenshots and such. This 6MP Kodak I have been using takes poor FCD shots at best. Anything out in the sun, morning or afternoon light are great but close-ups with any shadows or dark areas in sunlight or at night, she will not focus, the pics are offset and I get some pin-cushioning. I was speaking to a photographer with the high end digital Canon and he said any Canon consumer 4 + MP will do a good job for what I am trying to post but would like your recommendation given the great shot of your FCD above.

___Thanks in advance.

thanks, wayne. i agree with the recommendation about the canon. they have a nice series of powershot cameras, some of which have a really nice telephoto. my small one is the S2 IS, with a 12x zoom. they are quite reasonably priced, since they have come out with "better" ones since. i use it for my quick camera, when i just want to have one along.

i have to admit the screen shot above was done with my canon rebel xt high end digital, with a wide angle lens. i do a lot of photography, and was photographing some of the barn horses over the weekend.

i know it's off topic, but if anyone wants to see some of my work, it's at http://www.livinginoz.smugmug.com

I think with car stuff, it's *all* about lighting. Especially
on sunny days, when light/dark contrast can really kill your shot.
I remember driving in circles several times in a K-mart lot
one day trying to get the right light on a prototype lashup in
the passenger footwell while the GF was inside buying something,
and it took a lot of fiddling before I could get the car angled
just so and eliminate the blasting bright spots on the carpet
that were washing everything out. Even on full manual, which is
another way to force the camera to work the way you want.
.
It often helps to shade things and have indirect light. Maybe
put that expandable windshield-shade in before shooting the MFD?
Or just try to park under a tree or gas-station canopy as you
end your segment.
