View Full Version : Electric Bliss

I silently accelerate away from the stop light. Feel the instant torque. Hear the birds singing in the trees. And so begins my 15minutes of electric bliss each morning.

After descending 10minutes from 3600ft to 1000ft the aging 1999 NHW10 Prius, battery gets the elusive full charge allowing me to drive all electric. I turn onto a flat road and gently accelerate keeping up with traffic for 1mile. Another descent recharging the battery, followed by a flat road all electric another mile. I make my final descent with Mt. Fuji looming over me in the rear mirror. At this point a certain unease, can I time the next traffic signal perfectly? Today I am lucky and I can continue my bliss through the next turn onto a flat road. I know at this point that I can continue my bliss, but get the dreaded turtle or ignite the horrible, smelly noisy only 16% efficient internal combustion engine early and so all good things must end.

I have read about Prius smug but the more I drive it, the more I hate the ICE. I have read a lot of SUV bashing but I would buy an SUV EV its not what you drive but what you use to propel it. I am sure some the most hard driving, hard accelerating Tesla roadster drivers will be applauded not scorned.

So I wait for the day my morning bliss will last a life...:D

Good Luck
Andrew

Hi Andrew:

___God blesses those who wish for EV propulsion :D I hate it when that thing called the ICE comes on too

___That was a great story by the way! The 02 NHW11 I am currently running can do some damage to the EPA as well but there is nothing like the iFCD pegged and all you hear is the birds and the bees. Electric bliss is indeed a wonderful thing :)

___Good Luck

Thanks again Wayne

It is currently a bit of a love hate relationship, Mr Hyde keeps appearing at the most inconvenient times.

I am sure you guessed which SUV EV I would like to drive, although it is the battery I am lusting after. I keep my fingers crossed for Phoenix SUV,SUT. 75 sales already, even though still in crash testing. I suppose AVTL will do a baseline performance test soon. Cant wait to see the 12hr range test with level 3 charging, (fast recharge). Should be about 670m (at 60mph, 2hrs drive + 10 minute recharge)

I have followed your NHW11 progress, I am trying to use some of your tips i.e. FASing in the warmup stage, great results as you achieved the Japanese 10-15 mode you are officially a nenpimaniac. Short of building a tunnel between my home and my work(elev. 1000ft on slopes of Mt. Fuji), I have to go over inconvenient mountains so my mpg is terrain based, very steady. It is nice to live in the mountains, clean air but I would really like a flat route. I dont think I am doing justice to the NHW10.

Good Luck
Andrew
