When you set the trip meter, the mpg swings wildly for the first few miles then settles down. I often set it once a week. Starting on the second day, it increments by .2 or .3 mpg.
It takes a few miles in the morning for the catalytic converter to warm up. Regardless of what I do, my mpg drops by .2 or .3 first thing in the morning because of that. :(
Does anyone else have this experience?

Yeah. As more mileage gets put on, the effect of a single burst of low FE has less effect, but it will still affect the average.
An event that causes a .5mpg hit on a fresh tank average on Monday causes .2 or so by Friday for me.

Delta;
Sounds normal to me from what mine does from the 1st mile until I get to work.
Hi Chuck:
___That sounds about what I saw in my Insight as well. In the Accord, I will usually drop 1.5 mpg’s from a dead cold start to highway speeds with no warm up P&G when shy of 200 miles from top off. At 800 miles out, I only lose ~ .3 mpg’s as expected given the much larger distance traveled at that average with the shorter 2 mile warm up distance having much less effect on that average. Is that what you were talking about?

Yes, Wayne.
It seems like in the mornings, I just have to accept the fact that trip mpg will take a .2 or .3 mpg hit simply because it takes gas to heat up the catalytic converter.
