...'cuz I'm 290 miles through the tank, sitting at 40.8mpg!! Nothing special this week, either, yet substantially higher than my March tanks, even though temps are the same.

From what I could tell off the Colonial Pipeline website, they started pushing summer (low RVP) fuel through 2 or 3 weeks ago, so it should be all up the East Coast by a week or so ago...give it a few days to get to the distro tanks, then to the stations... If I catch a tanker at a station, I need to ask the driver if I can see his spec sheet for the load.

I don't think I'll pop over 40 at the end of the tank- weekend errands coming up. Too bad- it would be nice to start the season off with a personal-best tank- meet Tom's 10% goal right away!

BTW, I have completely stopped coasting in N. Always in gear, but absolutely keeping my foot off both pedals unless absolutely necessary. Its almost become like my brakes are a measure of last resort.

The perfect way to explain driving without breaks. "Use your brakes as a last resort."

sometimes i wish i had an automatic, i'm better at letting off the gas pedal than shifting gears.

Does that include for hybrid drivers just *barely* pushing the brake pedal so you only get regen and no friction braking? :)

Absolutely. Regen isn't free. There are losses in the conversion from electrical to mechanical energy when you use the stored energy. It's better to coast longer than gain regen.

Of course if the battery gets too low and you get forced regen while driving that isn't good either. (thats when you press the accelerator to get rid of regen ;) )

Hi GoNavy:

___Remember that RR decreases with warmer temps as does your thermal and fuel efficiency. We are getting a taste of summer RFG around these parts but it takes a week or two depending on the popularity of the station for a given stations tanks to get flushed (summer RFG replacing the winter stuff) as well. Higher temps are the real FE assist so far imho …

___Because of the $ cost of Ethanol nowadays, a Shell station I travel by outside the Milwaukee - Chicago - Gary, IN. non-attainment corridor is now selling straight RFG vs. E10 based RFG ;) Last tank in 28 - 70 degree temps went out 936.3 miles on 18.334 gallons to top off w/ at least another 70 miles before run out for a nice 51.069 mpg tank. My second best anyway. It is going to be an interesting summer to say the least …

___On a side note, your hypermiling capabilities have certainly improved since your first few tanks with the AH! Your most recent partial tank is a great way to start the spring/summer driving season given that nasty start/stop commute of yours if I do say so myself!

___Good Luck

Wayne - any word on where that station would be, especially if anywhere nearby ? I'd like to try some non-E10 in my own car, as I will need gas soon (I'm going to hit really close to 55 for this tank, btw!).

If you need to keep this info under wraps, feel free to PM me. Thanks :)

Hi Mark:

___Actually, it’s in Braidwood, IL. which is about 30 miles south of Joliet. Maybe 75 miles from your home so I don’t think it would be worth the drive :(

___As for your current tank, you are making me want to go pick up an HCH-II really really bad ;)

___Good Luck

Hi Terry:

___Seeing what Mark nailed down as his last commute, there is something to no EV in her just like the Insight. What she can do with a less dense route and some other tricks thrown in for good measure is what I want to know like yesterday!

___It would be a great car to drive for my own uses but not the wife … I can easily see 35 - 40 mpg segments again and again and again and I would be dead before my 45th birthday if that were to continue for as long as she would let it happen ;) She really needs an EV for a shorter commute as that is the only way she could manage electric economy because an EV cannot be driven any other way … Full Juice would kill an EV’s capabilities too but it isn’t that she runs at WOT, it is that she has no timing skills. Accelerator into the lights with brakes at the last second is her mindset and even with me in the car warning her of impending lights up ahead, it is like she wakes up to the stale greens, hard yellows, and reds way to late each and every time :(

___Good Luck
