Hello to all.... I;m a new owner of a prius and this is my first post. I have been reading and getting lots of usefull info from this wonderful site. My first question or sort of consure is about the long term effect on the cvt when shifting between [ Drive ] and [Neutral ] when you are just coasting . Will this do any thing to the cvt ?

Welcome to CleanMPG! That makes 2 of us in the last week here that got an '07 Prius.:) I think you are going to love the car! There are a few quirks but minor compared to the benefits. As for the shifting between D & N, I'm not sure if it will cuase any long-term problems but I haven't done this and I still was able to hit 75.1 mpg just by creative use of my right foot. P&G is a real friend in a Prius. Good luck and happy reading.
Hi Shar1950:
___Another welcome to CleanMPG!
___I am not really sure where you stand on the tech scale but as far as N in a Prius II goes, you really do not need to use that as a Glide is so easy too put her into. Saying that, Hobbit mentioned a shortened glide distance in N vs. the std. Glide but I would like to see the current draw via CAN-View in an N Glide to verify what is going on. In a std. Glide, the Prius draws around 6 amps which is pretty large sum to me?
___The following might help get you started on how to wring the most out of your Prius II. She is pretty amazing when pushed ;)
P&G plus WS in the Prius II for maximum FE … (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/articles/t-pulse-and-glide-plus-warp-stealth-in-the-prius-ii-for-maximum-fe--1224.html)

Welcome!
There is no mechanical linkage in the Prius "CVT" when you play with the shift lever. Drive and neutral are just your way of telling the computers what you want to do, they then engage or disengage the ability for MG1 and MG2 to be used.
