Hi All:

___I have been bouncing around an idea for the past week or so about using a Press Pool Toyota Camry Hybrid (Special Edition of course ;)) and driving out to LA for the LA Auto Show Press Event in late November.

___I checked with Terrapass to come up with a carbon offset solution and it cost just $29.95 to cover the entire round trip + more. I think it would make for a great story for CleanMPG members and one I would like to experience for myself …

___Even though I drive a small portion of Route 66 everyday (the plant site is actually located on Rt. 66), I was wondering if anyone else here has driven the “Mother Road” from its starting point just south of Chicago all the way to California? I am sure there are a ton of sites I can find information about the trip but having the extremely knowledgeable members we have here, I was wondering if anyone here has experienced the trip first hand?

___I have to believe a setup TCH with maybe Tom and I or my wife and I should pull 45 + mpg’s even that late in the fall given the mostly 55 mph speed limits but I was mostly wondering about the trip and the experience itself is all??? I also believe I would pass within 100 miles of more then a few of you and I think I could make the time to visit a priority :)

___Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

___Good Luck

We folks out here in the West say that it starts in California and ends in Illinois. ;)

Advise caution for the poor condition of the road on my portion of 66.

Roadtripping on Route 66 – in a hybrid no less – across the country, sounds like a fantasy dream come true.
And best of all, coming here to LA? ... someone fan me please.

Hi Brian:

___I thought the native Californian’s were getting around on all 4’s and living in caves back when Rt. 66 was being originally constructed from the Land of Lincoln :p

___Randall, is Rt. 66 through parts of OK. even worse then some sections we drove during the Insight Marathon? If so, it is going to be one bone rattling SOB for whoever is in the car with me! At least they will enjoy the monotony of going below the speed limit for survivals sake rather then just FE :)

___Tarabell, are you saying you will make it to the LA Auto Show with us this time around? :woot: :woot:

___I spoke with Eric Powers about this just this morning for some pointers on how to approach Toyota. How about I try and arrange a Hypermiling Clinic in the TCH with Jay Leno as the student? Do you think that would convince them ;)

Uh-oh, should I be worried? ;)

Sorry, I had missed Wayne's question.

Wayne will know what I'm am talking about, when I say that most of 66 in my state, is likely going to be like the high side of the Insight Marathon route, after the turn to the east on 156 going toward Marland.:Banane36:

(Is there a reason I have to hunt for Machine Gun Banana every time?:D)

I dont know if that good or bad. It sure is nice to have a chunk of the mother road in Oklahoma.
