Every American who can afford to buy a car that gets 40 miles to the gallon should do so as soon as possible ("Green living takes root (http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/news/20070419/1a_cover19_dom.art.htm)," Cover story, News, April 19).
We need laws that mandate electric vehicles with a 150-mile range to be available at car dealerships within 18 months. Electric cars will travel 100 miles for $3 to $5. I hate to pay more at the pump, but if it forces the switch to fully electric vehicles, then I am all for it. Imagine a country with zero exhaust.
