View Full Version : Labels for drivers/members
efusco 04-27-2007, 11:45 AM Just noticed that I'm a Senior Member...I have 103 posts and joined in April of '06. The post just above the mine was EricBecky...he's got 230 posts and joined Feb. of '06...his name says Member.
Also, I'm confused by the labels on the mileage logs...some say skilled, some say expert, but it seems like there'll be someone with slightly better LMPG in the same car and they won't have skilled when the next one down the list does have the 'skilled' label (See JoeS in the log (http://www.cleanmpg.com/cmps_index.php?page=garage)).
Is there a place here that explains all that for those of us a little too slow to figure it out?
Does it help to submit a bribe to the admins?
Chuck 04-27-2007, 11:48 AM Titles can be changed
"Skilled" is "above average hypermiler". OK, hypermilers are not average, but you know what I mean. :D

Yea, I understand the general concept, but it seems inconsistant (I edited my post slightly and directed attention to JoeS who doesn't have the skilled label when someone in a similar car just below him on LMPG does).
Also, what are the criteria to be labeled as a hypermiler? Skilled 10% over EPA? Expert XX%, Elite YY%?
Chuck 04-27-2007, 11:54 AM Tom is the admin and will be the one setting up default titles. I don't think be would mind creativity on a suggested list.
We had a thread on the impact the new EPA figures would have on the milage database. We have non-hypermilers, hypermilers, skilled hypermilers, and elite hypermilers at the apex.
Hope either I can find that thread or another member can chime in.

Hmmmm, I must not be doing a good job of explaining my question.
I'm not really concerned about what the labels are, but how they are assigned. is it random or automatic...what criteria define them?
That said, after seeing the hypermiler propoesed lables, I think "non-hypermiler" should be something more like prospective hypermiler it sounds a bit more hopeful, the connotation of "non" suggests failure.
Chuck 04-27-2007, 12:08 PM On the default titles - Tom (tbalano) would know for sure. The Admin could set it up like this, for example:
Newbie - Less Than 10 posts
Member - 11-99 posts
Sr Member - 100-499 posts
Veteran - 500+ postsI don't know for sure the defaults.

Currently, if a member does not reach hypermiler status, no title is given

efusco, thank you for these suggestions. :)
Hope that helps...
tbaleno 04-27-2007, 12:09 PM There is no non-hypermiler designation.
Skilled hypermiler is anyone that gets epa, or 20% over epa, if the car is using the new epa specs.
As far as member tag like Member or Senior Member. It depends on multiple things, 1) what your primary group is, 2) If you have changed the tag yourself.

Again, I point you to JoeS he's getting 74.5mpg, the EPA for his 2002 5M Insight are: 61/68, yet he isn't labled as skilled or anything. Likewise lakedude is getting 69.5mpg in his '05 civic hybrid manual and doesn't have a label when clearly he should by the numbers. I guess I was just curious how these guys slipped through the cracks of being labeled.
efusco 04-27-2007, 12:26 PM I do note that their signature tags do show their labels. Just not on the overview page.
Chuck 04-27-2007, 12:27 PM Could it be they just need more miles driven?
tarabell 04-27-2007, 12:27 PM Funny, I noticed Chuck you are a 'veteran' and Wayne with twice as many posts is only a 'senior member'. So something odd there.
For hypermilers: skilled, expert and elite are the only categories I know of. Sometimes I've noticed the poster's signature block will show "skilled" but the mileage log won't show anything. Once you go on Wayne's official list then the mileage log is updated.

That's not it. :o
brucepick 04-27-2007, 12:46 PM Again, I point you to JoeS he's getting 74.5mpg, the EPA for his 2002 5M Insight are: 61/68, yet he isn't labled as skilled or anything. I noted that when I "registered" my vehicle I needed to enter the EPA values. And in fact it seemed that there was nothing to correct any misinformation that I may have entered (I did my best to research the #s for my '89 car). If your car is young enough you can pick them off the dropdown list but in any case you have to enter the numbers for the car.
So if JoeS did not enter EPA mpg numbers for his vehicle or if he erroneously entered very high numbers then I think he won't get any status assigned until he corrects that. Perhaps JoeS isn't particularly interested in status... But he seems to be getting very decent FE regardless.
When I was getting started here at CleanMPG I asked about the requirements for Skilled/Expert/Elite (Skilled was differently named then).
I did need to rack up 5000 miles before Skilled status kicked in, even though I was clearly doing better than EPA combined before that. I received "Skilled" status immediately upon crossing the 5K mi. mark. True that JoeS has long ago passed that mark but some others have not yet.
Re. Member Status - somehow I've become "Senior". True, I'm over 50 but I don't think that's it. Only been here since maybe Feb. '07. However I've been posting pretty regularly; sometimes don't know when to keep my mouth or keyboard shut. Maybe that's what earned me "Senior".
tbaleno 04-27-2007, 02:14 PM Ahh. I see. You are right. I think there is a minimum number of miles for the overview page, but the signatures don't have that limitation. I think it is 5000 miles or something before you qualify for recognition on the overview page.
