Burned by hybrids, GM needs to decide if they are to be a serious player with fuel cell vehicles. A number of automakers will probably introduce FCVs in the 2012 to 2015 timeframe. All I can say is GM is now in American football sense in a third and long situation.

Not sure what they're waiting for. Honda just took the wraps off their totally new, 2nd gen FCV for the press a week or two ago. GM appears to already be behind in the game, before there's even any buyers in the first place.
Hi Chuck:
___I have been wondering all along why GM has been spending massive amounts of engineering $’s on FCV ’s knowing up front what the obstacles where vs. hybrid’s for example? This made absolutely no sense then and makes no sense that I can tell even today. Honda, Toyota, and Ford’s FCV expenditures appear to be just problematic … GM will be a broken down and closed up corporate entity if they keep chasing old ideas in the large SUV game and the pie in the sky FCV arena all the while Honda and Toyota are making huge $’s in the same market place with technology that can be applied in the real world at affordable pricing today. Just my opinion anyway :(
___Good Luck

Bill Gates once said that the biggest mistakes happen when you are ahead....Apple is a perfect example of that. They introduced the Macintosh in 1984 - over a decade ahead of Windows 95 and eight years ahead of Windows 3.1 (while it did not compare to the Mac interface, it was good enough to take the market share away). Apple had a golden opportunity to get even farther ahead, lower the price of their desktops and take away the market share from Intel desktops. Instead, they kept the price high to maxiumize their profits and put false hopes they could defeat Windows 95 in court. Of course, they failed and today even Unix/Linux desktops outnumber iMacs.
Back to GM. They once had more resources than anyone in the automotive world. All this R&D on fuel cells and other technologies and did not bother to put it in the marketplace....if anyone could have put a hybrid on the market and taken a loss, it was GM. They will never have that chance again. They are fighting for their very life.
