View Full Version : "The 62 mile bug" for 2k6 HCH2's has been fixed
Sledge 03-31-2006, 12:58 PM At least I hope it's been fixed. My parts are on the way :D
Thanks go to kenny on GH.
If you have the 62 mile bug on your HCH2, call up the dealer and tell him you need Product Update 06-013 (tachometer gauge control module). This update is dated 3/24/06 which was only 5 days ago.

Sledge,
I wonder if there is a Vin # cutoff for HCH II's that are not affected by this "Bug" ?
I think my Vin # is 10075 Vehicle produced.
I have not seen anything that would seem to indicate that my HCH II has the "Bug".
Sledge 04-01-2006, 06:42 AM There has been more than one thread on GH about the bug. Some people say they don't have it, so your wondering may be correct.
Hi Sledge:
___I am glad Honda came through on this given the numbers of HCH-II owners affected. This news has to be a huge relief for those that had the bug …
___Good Luck

tbaleno 04-01-2006, 09:48 PM We have one member here I think with the bug. I think its one of the ladies. Maybe Tarabell(sp?)
tarabell 04-02-2006, 12:01 AM Yes I have it. If it's a quick fix I'll do it soon. If I have to leave the car I'll wait till I can get my oil changed out at the same time & kill 2 birds.
Sledge 04-02-2006, 08:29 AM Tarabell, according to the thread I got this info from, they said it's going to be a two hour repair time.
If I have a repair that lasts longer than an hour, I always ask for a loaner car. My dealer is pretty cool about giving people loaner vehicles. They don't hassle you about it. They just give it to you.

Hey Sledge;
This Sounds like a Honda Dealer to Me. :D Quote by Sledge:They just give it to you.
Sledge 04-05-2006, 09:08 PM Confirmed!
Alster at GH who originally spread the news has just returned from the dealer and confirmed with a long road trip that the MPG data indeed no longer resets.
:)

Sledge 04-07-2006, 08:27 AM My parts have come in and by 12:00 noon on Monday, the bug shall be permanently exorcised from my car
Sledge 04-12-2006, 09:33 PM 62 miles have come and gone. I hereby declare the bug to be officially dead
tbaleno 04-12-2006, 09:37 PM Yippie!
Good news for all 06' civic hybrid owners that have it.
AZBrandon 04-12-2006, 09:44 PM I had a revalation just moments ago and realized you're the same Sledge from TheCarLounge.net. Ha!
Sledge 04-13-2006, 07:15 AM O RLY? :D
Yes :)
Hi Sledge:
___About all I can say is that I am glad to hear that Honda took care of their misstep. Somebody inside Honda had to have known about the bug early on but I also understand why it took as long as it did for the proper fix to arrive … Either way, your HCH-II is now perfect ;)
___Good Luck

tarabell 07-05-2006, 06:23 PM Took my car to the Honda dealer for its very first service this Monday: Oil change, 62 mile bug fix, and increase tire pressure.
I thought I did my grilling job. They have the part in stock? Yes. How long does the fix take? An hour or so at most. The oil is the 0W-20? Yes. Next to “check tires” I make him write 44 psi and underline it on the order. Then he tells me that my odometer gets zeroed by the tach module replacement. Now this upsets me – everyone else says their odometer was reset back to their exact original mileage. I asked the manager why he couldn’t do that. Oh no, he said, that would be tampering and they’re not authorized to do that. That’s nuts I said, you’re authorized to “tamper” with it already by replacing the module – isn’t it the point to restore the mileage to make it “untampered” again? He said he was sorry and would check but that was their policy. I think the policy smells like BS but I just tell him to please check and I leave.
Then I get a call a few hours later – a good news-bad news call. NOW he says oh, the software update that goes with the tach module WILL maintain/restore my original odometer numbers. Bad news is, he couldn’t get the cable connected to download it, and they screwed up some connector or thingy on their side and they have to replace it before they can do the fix. So he said to bring my car back in a week when they have their part and they’ll do the whole thing then. I was so happy I got the oil change and no other damage done I went and picked it up immediately. It wasn’t till I was driving home it dawned on me that either a) they’ve clearly NEVER done this fix before and I'm their practice shot or b) the hybrid service tech guy took a long holiday weekend and left the regular Honda guys to puzzle this out. Otherwise how could they fumble it so bad they stripped their own connector? Next time I’m talking personally to whoever’s working on my car. He won’t like me. Reminds me how I felt when I took my baby (not my car, the other one) for her first doctor checkup. :(

tarabell 08-11-2006, 12:31 PM Attempt #2 is in progress.
lakedude 08-11-2006, 03:01 PM Good luck on your fix Terrible Terry. Stupid Honda Dealers........
tarabell 08-14-2006, 12:13 PM My husband got to do all the harassing for me this time. He took my car to the dealer for me and I took my old Hyundai to work. This time they tried to snow HIM and claimed somehow they didn't have the part in stock that day. Husband looks serious -- oh no my wife rented a car so I could bring this in and boy she isn't going to be happy if this doesn't get fixed today. (We have this good cop, bad cop script going). So the guy says well he'll look, but drags his feet checking the computer and my husband whips out one of his favorite stogies and lights up (the desk is right by the driveway, so they're practically outside). By his second puff the poor idjut says wow, someone else scheduled this but never showed up so you can have their part. Just to get him out of there. I felt sorry for whoever had to give my husband a lift home. (Now you know why I'm so glad this car has no ashtray?)
I call to check on the car and yes the hybrid-genius is working it and it should be ready in about 2 hours and yes the mileage numbers will be reset. My husband brings the car home and I see not only is the main odometer restored to its near-original 7492 miles, but the Trip-A and Trip-B all show 7492 miles. At least the bug should be history and I'll know my tank mileage now, even before I fill up.
I have to admit it was worth the day driving the Hyundai to work and enjoying the a/c both ways, full blast.
