My sister-in-law's Prius-II bit the dust this weekend. Luckily nobody needed a hospital stay. Guy made a left turn into it, and it looks totalled. So, if there's anyone in the Quantico-Richmond, VA area who needs Prius parts, call up the salvage houses soon!

That's sad. :ccry:

Will she get another?

Sucks.

I hope she can find a good replacement. A bird in the hand and all that.

No word yet on the replacement. We are still just counting our blessings nobody was hurt, she had three passengers in the vehicle at the time. My mother-in-law flew out there yesterday morning (she rode with me into work, as I work at the airport, but we were running late so my fe wasn't in tip-top shape). They did love their Prius though so I wouldn't count out another Prius to grace their driveway. I expect their second choice would be a Volvo wagon. This whole family I married into seems to have a Volvo fetish :P

Volvo people huh!!!
Waaaaaay Waaaay back-mid 1960's-there was a neat looking Volvo sportscar.
It was the only Volvo I would go out of my way to own.
Those older Volvo wagons did have HUGE interior volume-pretty much a box on wheels.

Volvo folks usually are not 1967 Mustang Harley anything owners.
Your wife must not be a fully observant Volvo-er !!

Glad no injuries-Prius are well made! Airbags deployed?

Yup, airbags definitely went off. My wife is also a Volvo freak - her #1 choice, cost no object, would be a Volvo wagon (I myself like Volvos too, would love a 240, 850, 960, or V70 wagon). My mother in law drives an '88 740 wagon, the proverbial box on wheels, and before my sister-in-law bought the Prius, she had a V70 wagon. Over the years, my parents-in-law have had 3 or 4 other Volvos too.

I think the sporty Volvo to which you refer is the P1800?

My sister had a 740 wagon. Great solid car and huge cargo space. The whole interior fell apart, though. Door panels falling off, handles breaking and the like.

That's a sweet looking car! I saw one around here once and could only think that must be where the inspiration for the Karmen Ghia came from... and it didn't live up to the original!

That's the same model as the 3-million-mile Volvo.

Same on my mother in law's. About 280k miles and the motor runs pretty well, especially after I gave it a tune-up, though overdrive doesn't always like to work. The worst part is the interior - it's pretty torn up, most of the trim pieces gone, no headliner, torn upholstery, and the plastic is very brittle - I accidentally broke the plastic handle just before Christmas folding down the seat. I fit a whole Christmas tree in there and still had room to play with :)

The AC wasn't ever that great either. Hmmm... maybe it wasn't designed for the Texas sun and heat.

Wouldn't know - none of the climate controls work :) You're probably right, I imagine it was made for Swedish summers, which likely doesn't necessitate much in the way of a/c.

Yes-that is the one!
It was a much better car than the Karmen Ghia.
In the 60's I would walk across the street to look at one-they weren't uncommon.
No one would walk across the street to look at a Karmen Ghia.(cute car but 45-50 hp??)

Yes those Volvo SW would make great road trip vehicles-Swedish Suburbans

The comments about Volvo's interior plastics becoming brittle and the less-than-stellar A/C made me smile. Remember that Volvo's have traditionally been designed and built in Sweden - far north with short days with the sun low in the sky (so less UV to degrade plastics), and A/C is a curiosity in a country with an arctic climate. What I know about Volvo is that the Swedish engineering always meant "built for cold", with heaters that could oven-roast any potato left near the front seat, they had rear fog lights to cope with the long nights and fog/mist/sleet, and they had big bumpers to fend off the caribou or whatever ventures onto the roadways.

Hi Jcp123:

Did she here back from the insurance adjuster yet? 11 Prius' are being given away and the 12's with Display Audio are a lot nicer ;)
