View Full Version : inquiry about Chevrolet Avalanche w/hot weather
asulaiti 12-16-2011, 02:36 PM I send a greeting to all members here in this forum and wish you more knowledge and benefit.
I am writing to you from the Middle East, and I have some questions about U.S cars,
I hope to help me get the answer.
I'm thinking to buy a used Chevrolet Avalanche 2010 from the U.S. directly through the internet,
and I will be export it to the Middle East, and specifically to the State of Qatar.
My inquiry:
(1) Is the vehicle specifications which are manufactured and sold in America are suitable for driving in the Middle East?
in a hot weather places?
(2) Is the factory made for each State in America has its own specifications? Or that the standard specifications for all States?
What prompted me to ask these questions, is the weather in the Middle East in the summer too hot, the temperature reaches at the peak of summer to 40-45 ° C,
and as I know, that the climate regions of each States in U.S. vary in temperature, and also there is mandates airspace similar to the environments of the Middle East,
such as Texas and Indiana, for example.
So I thought of buying from these states which are have similar weather with the Middle East, but sometimes you find a better car out of these two states,
so I put my questions and I hope the owners of the experience and knowledge to enlighten us on this issue.
Thank you for helping me
Note:
I'm sorry for my English Language, maybe you will find some mistake, and I hope my topic is understand.
08EscapeHybrid 12-16-2011, 02:51 PM I would look for a vehicle equipped with the factory towing package. This will come with a high output alternator, bigger brakes, larger radiator, plus transmission and oil coolers. The stock setup should be fine, but the towing package is better. You should be pleased with it, I almost bought one a couple years back. Instead I bought an extended cab pickup (pretty much the same vehicle under the hood)
ksstathead 12-16-2011, 03:43 PM I agree with the first reply. Towing package will have extra cooling all around.
The states get the same things in most cases. California mandates above Federal standards, but then the cars are all made to that higher standard.
The non-towing versions will work unless pushing its limits, then they will get hot and have a shorter life. Transmissions and engines need the extra cooling for your area.
Your English is a bit awkward, but understandable. You should see my Arabic. :)
08EscapeHybrid 12-16-2011, 07:55 PM Good point... I would avoid any vehicle with California emissions, as parts and service may be hard to obtain overseas.
PaleMelanesian 12-16-2011, 08:48 PM I see many Avalanches on the roads around here. Also many many many of their close relatives the Chevy and GMC trucks. We hit a summer high of 43C (110F) this summer, with weeks on end in the 40C range. It'll be just fine.
For your own survival, I highly recommend good window tint and those windshield reflector shades that block the sun while parked. A cooler car when you come to it will be easier to chill once you're driving.
phoebeisis 12-17-2011, 03:19 PM Welcome
As others said- no problems with specifications
We have some pretty hot states-lots of places in TX hit about 105f degrees- roughly 40C-and in Arizona(Phoenix) and Nevada (Las Vegas) it hits 115 F(about 45c) many days in the summer. In July 2008 I drove thru NORTH Texas it was 95 degrees(about 36c) at MIDNIGHT!! Like PaleMelanesian says-Texas and the SW is HOT!!
Speaking of which you don't want to buy ANY USED VEHICLE from our MIDWEST STATES OR NORTH EASTERN STATES. Those regions used SALT(NaCl) on the roads in the winter to prevent road icing. The salt makes the cars RUST !! They are rustbuckets after a very few years,
I would be suspicious of a Indiana car-MIdwest state.
Texas is a great place to buy a used truck-no rust buckets-same story for most of the Southern and south western states- Florida,Alabama,Mississipppi louisiana,Texas New Mexico,Arizona Nevada
Now folks already suggested you avoid CA because CA is the only state with slightly different specifications-
Yes, but a car from our south or south west. They can all take the heat just fine-especially if you get the tow kit with the extra coolers-oil cooler-transmission fluid cooler-sometimes even power steering fluid cooler(in some vehicles-probably not GMs since they don't need it)
Texas is your best bet- lots of low mile trucks in Texas- because folks buy lots of trucks in Texas-lotta folks in TX-and no salt on roads{ they also love their trucks more than their wives and almost as much as their kids)

asulaiti 12-17-2011, 05:24 PM First, I am grateful to the members interaction here with my subject, and your answer to my inquiry
Thanks.
It seems to me that they really are alike
I was confused and hesitant before making a purchasing decision,
and now things became clear to me .. I will start the search and purchase ..
A vehicle equipped with the factory towing package, it's really great idea,
where a greater tolerance specifications, more power, and off course bigger radiator with extra cooler for it.
Maybe this helps in the weather of Middle East .. Thanks "08EscapeHybrid"
I will try to buying form Texas, as many people advice me.
ksstathead, PaleMelanesian and phoebeisis,
thank you for the help.
asulaiti 12-19-2011, 03:00 AM Well
Searched in the Internet and found some Avalanche stated it is equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailering Package ..
specially with z71 type.
Some other vehicles stated that it found with only Trailer hitch or Trailer Towing Hitch,
but did not mention the Heavy-Duty Trailering Package ..
Also found a lot type of Avalanche z71 .. According to what I think they are always special specifications,
or it can withstand the rigors of use or so-called off-road feature ..
Is this true?
Because some ( Avalanche z71 ) I did not find saying heavy-Duty Trailering Package in the description page ..
I don't know, maybe just some internal increments ?! roof DVD player ..
Is the ( Avalanche z71 ) the right one for me?
Please advise ..
msirach 12-19-2011, 07:06 AM The Z71 adds stuff you probably don't need like gas shocks and springs that raise the body about 2.5". Bigger tires, skid plates etc. It doesn't look like you can get the Towing package with the Z71.
08EscapeHybrid 12-19-2011, 08:27 AM The Z71 is the premium off road package... Premium Bilstein shocks, skid plates, better tires. You should be able to get a Z71 with the heavy duty trailering package. My GMC pickup truck has both the Z71 and heavy duty towing packages.
msirach 12-19-2011, 02:02 PM I stand corrected.
Here is a list of the options for a 2010 Avalanche from CG Automotive (http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2010-chevrolet-avalanche-8.htm)
ninerfan88 01-17-2012, 10:58 AM Good to know that the Avalanche is suitable for hot weather. We're considering one (only because of the towing capabilities, not the gas use). We started farming years ago, and it's time to step it up a bit from her older Ram. Not looking forward to the gas prices going to $5 this summer, though.
08EscapeHybrid 01-17-2012, 11:25 AM I'm not sure about an Avalanche for farming use. Farm use is pretty hard on a vehicle, and I feel that the seals between the bed and the passenger cabin might be damaged creating a leak. I'd stick with an extended cab or crew cab pickup.
