View Full Version : Who would you have as quarterback: Tony Romo or Tim Tebow? Chuck 12-12-2011, 04:44 PM A former Dallas sportswriter posed this pointed question. ItsNotAboutTheMoney 12-12-2011, 06:51 PM I'd take Tim Tebow. Not because I think the Cowboys* would be able to win it all with him at quarterback but because I'm convinced they can't do it with Romo. Romo has the ability to help a team to get better but he's just not a winner. PS I believe that the best strategy when playing against the Giants is simply to trail the receiver. Eventually Eli Manning will underthrow a pass and you'll get an easy interception. * I was 10 and in the UK. phoebeisis 12-12-2011, 06:57 PM Drew Brees!! Romo will choke-Tebow just isn't a good enough passer But forced to choose-Tebow wins ItsNotAbout- Eli Manning beat the Cowgirls yesterday-came from 12 points down too. Charlie ItsNotAboutTheMoney 12-12-2011, 07:05 PM Drew Brees!! Charlie I know, I watched the game. Eli Manning has the important attribute of getting better at the end of the game. But, he keeps having to come back to win because of his early mistakes. Chuck 12-12-2011, 07:13 PM ^ Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are mentioned more in the elite QB talks along with Brady and P Manning. Just frustrated at the hype five years ago that Romo was the next Staubach, Favre, Brady. He's had enough moments to make a few think that would happen, but it's been long enough to say he does not have that intangible the elite QB's have to win critical games. Interesting contrast: Romo has the 3rd best active lifetime passing stats, yet has won only one playoff game and lost many crucial ones. Tebow has a horrendous 47% completion passing stat, some still wonder if he can play in the NFL, yet he's taken a 1-4 team then won 5 or 6 straight. I'll take winning ugly over losing with 400yds passing any day. rfruth 12-12-2011, 07:26 PM Tebow is the media darling right now but not that good of a player (guess how I voted :)) ItsNotAboutTheMoney 12-12-2011, 07:26 PM ^ Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are mentioned more in the elite QB talks along with Brady and P Manning. I think Tebow may be able to play in the NFL, just because it seems like he has everything else. Players can improve technically. At the very least Tebow will be a career back-up. Chuck 12-12-2011, 11:03 PM Locally a sportscaster said Jason Garrett is not going to get fired because Jerry Jones is NOT going to admit he made a mistake. Besides, it's scary to think who Garrett's replacement would be. phoebeisis 12-13-2011, 05:58 AM 50% passing-is more or less an average high school QB. But on the bright side-somehow he doesn't throw many interceptions or fumbles So 50% no turnovers might be as good as 60% with a turnover per game. . Not sure how many passes he has thrown-maybe 100 or so?? Brees has thrown 400+ I guess- 11 interceptions-maybe 2-3 fumbles? 25TD/11 INT -just a guess/memory Not sure how Tebow wins- not a great passer-not even a good passer-doesn't even have the strong arm many running QBs have Just don't know-probably it is because it is tough to guard receivers when you have to worry about a running QB-eventually they go SOOOO OPEN that even an inaccurate passer can make a completion Eli has decent TD/INT maybe 20/12 or so?? PS a 57 yard at 5000 feet is probably a 48 yarder at sea level-thinner air helps-less drag-foot speed will be higher so initial vel will be more and loss of vel will be less. ItsNotAboutTheMoney 12-13-2011, 07:58 AM 50% passing-is more or less an average high school QB. But on the bright side-somehow he doesn't throw many interceptions or fumbles So 50% no turnovers might be as good as 60% with a turnover per game. Right. Teams have won a Superbowl with quarterbacks by having a great defense, a good running game and a quarterback that doesn't make mistakes and is an accurate passer. Tebow is an inaccurate passer but he extremely mobile, to the extent that his mobility is a weapon and, from what I've seen of him, has the brain to survive the NFL. As you point out: mobility buys time, time buys space, space buys margin of error. When the defense is tired and feels the pressure at the end of the game they make mistakes. Good quarterbacks get better in the 4th quarter because they have the brain both to understand the opponents and to take advantage of those defensive mistakes. That's what Tebow seems to have done so far. phoebeisis 12-13-2011, 12:31 PM I am a little surprised Tebow is such an effective runner But I shouldn't be.He was a great runner against SEC defenses-not NFL but pretty good. In some ways he is almost as good runner than Cam Newton-newton is bigger-255 vs 235 and faster 4.59 vs 4.7 But Tebow uses his arms hands to very effectively pull tacklers hands off him-while he runs downfield-not just while he is in the pocket(Rothelesberger uses his hands in the pocket to shrug off tacklers-Tebow does it in the open field Not just stiff arm- he actually grabs their arms and pulls them off his legs/waist etc. It is puzzling- but good defense-great kicker-and great running potential mean you don't have to be as accurate a passer Charlie PS I give them NO CHANCE against NE-Brady will get 3 TD plus couple field goals-should be enough-BUT??? Chuck 12-13-2011, 06:15 PM ... I give them NO CHANCE against NE-Brady will get 3 TD plus couple field goals-should be enough-BUT??? ...but if they beat New England, that would be my definition of a miracle. :D Just trying to be a comedian - not trying to drill down on that path.... ItsNotAboutTheMoney 12-13-2011, 06:22 PM PS I give them NO CHANCE against NE-Brady will get 3 TD plus couple field goals-should be enough-BUT??? I believe that should be an ellipsis. ;) BUT... the Patriots' defense is really bad right now. It should have been improving this year but the secondary has been badly affected by injuries. They even have Edelman playing defense in the nickel package because he can tackle. Fortunately for him and unfortunately for the Patriots they rarely force long yardage. With the Broncos' offensive line Tebow should get plenty of time and with the Patriots' terrible secondary he should get men open. Run the ball to kill the clock, have a good kicking game, get sustained pressure on Brady and they can win the game. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
