This message is really meant for Chuck, but I thought the rest of you might be interested or have suggestions for us.

So Chuck,
Guess what? Remember the possible hybrid car show in your area I mentioned a while back? Well, the site will now be Lewisville, TX July 6!

"Taste of Hybridfest" It will begin somewhere around 5 or 6 pm downtown. It will be our little corner of the Great Race's stop in Lewisville.

I hope I can count on you to help on the ground the day of the show. Great Race will supply the location, but I need you, or someone else local to connect with the local Great Race people ahead of time to coordinate a small amount of logistics (when to get the hybrid cars there, where to park them, how long they will be in place, etc.)

We can talk via phone, but in the meantime here's what I'd like to see:
- get up to 10 hybrids at the event. At least one Ford product might be good. Ford is sponsorsing the Great Race I think.
- ask someone from the local hybrid community or college or environmental arena to do a short discussion about hybrids ie, what is a hybrid, top 5 hybrid myths. I'm open to suggestions.
- get someone to volunteer to put up a small "easy up" tent (~10x10) where the speaker can speak, just in case it rains, or it's too hot.
- A table somewhere that someone will man that can have some Hybridfest information. I will also try to get a Hybridfest banner sent down to you. Maybe you could bring it back up with you when you come to HF in Wisconsin? It would save us postage.

Anyway, suddenly things are rush, rush and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it so I can report back to Great Race organizers in two weeks.

p.s. We will try to do the same thing in two other US cities. Concord, NC (near Charlotte) and Annaheim, CA.

This is a suprize!

I'll definitely see what I can do.

Getting others in the area to help is the biggest concern - hope I can get a few to help out. I'd active at both PriusChat and GreenHybrid so hope a few can pitch in.

I hope so too. I'll let you do the posting to those sites, o.k.? I'll jump in as needed on the posts.

I saw this link to a Press release about the Great Race coming to town on the city of Lewisville site
http://tinyurl.com/yt4bhm

Great American Race, presented by Interstate Batteries will begin on June 30 in Concord, N.C., and will finish two weeks later, on July 14, in Anaheim. Lewisville will mark the midway point in this year’s race. A field of up to 100 classic cars, all manufactured in 1969 or earlier, are eligible to compete.

The participating vehicles will arrive in Lewisville between 5:30 and 6 p.m. on July 6 and will be placed on free public display in the Old Town Lewisville area for three hours. The city’s tourism office is arranging other entertainment and activities in connection with the vehicle display.

Eric,

Downtown Lewisville is 2-3 miles from me - the easy part.

Now I want to go there this weekend to shoot pictures. Ironically, I just went downtown to a feed store and shot pictures of a 1935 Chevy pickup there.

They have done some work on downtown.

I've never done this before, but willing to learn.

Eric, my e-mail is {removed since thead is going public}

It should be fairly straightforward.

My understanding is that there is already a local committee in Lewisville working on the logistics for the arrival of the Great Race entrants. When they arive their cars will be on display. The Great Race promoters will simply set aside extra space for our hybrids. We just need to give them a rough idea of what we need.

For example. If we need space for 8 cars and a 10x10 tent, then they'll make room for us in their planning. I don't know much about the planning committee in Lewisville yet, but once I find out, I'll just link you up with them.

The hybrid part does not need to be complex or anything. Just a simple showing of hybrid cars would be fine. Anything more than that is icing on the cake. I want it to be fun for you and not be a hassle.

I will stay involved and help communicate as best I can from up here in Wisconsin.

For now, it's just really good to know that you are on board!

I'll let the main promoter, Mike Ewing, know that I think we have Lewisville covered and that we'll report into to him with a rough estimate of our space needs in two weeks. What ever we say now, can always change, so don't feel like we are locked in to whatever we propose.

Thanks for your email address. We'll be in touch.

A week from now, some GH members are planning to meet flash in Mesquite in the D/FW area (see Impromptu meet near Dallas, TX April 13-15 (http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/showthread.php?t=12502&highlight=mesquite) )

This gives me time to prepare to promote The Great Race on July 6. Things on my mind:

Telling them about the hybrid participation with as much info as possible.
Getting a more up to speed on how the Prius operates
Possibly getting some hybrid FAQ literature ready for July 6. At PriusChat, Tony PShaffer has compiled a detailed list of hybrid myths such as "Dust to Dust", etc.

FYI
I mentioned that we are organizing similar showings at two other Great Race stops in Concord, NC and Annaheim.
We seem to have Anaheim covered via the local Prius Club.
We're having some difficulty finding someone local on the ground for North Carolina. There are people in Columbia, NC but that is several hours away. It might work o.k. but someone local would be best. Wish us luck.

I think I might post to that thread and give them a heads up that you might have some other exciting news to share.
I won't say what it is, I'll leave that for you. I'll just sort of pique their interest a bit.

Is that o.k with you?

Eric,

I hope to have a few people show up at Spring Creek BBQ Sat night.

Sadly, Flash (who started the idea) completely disappeared until last night, so the GH thread on this almost disappared. I plan to be there, and posted a Google Map and time at GH and PC.

There is a really green guy at the gym that drives a Prius II. Met him and mentioned about July 6, but he may be in Nova Scotia. :( Hope he might mention it to others that might be able to come.

Eric,

You mentioned speech - about how long?

I'm thinking less than five minutes, but it's a guess.

Already thinking about content.

Nothing fancy.
For example, it could be a a quick
- Top 5 myths about hybrids.
- 10 Ways to improve gas mileage (Look at this great article written by someone who must be an absolute GENIUS! http://hybridcars.about.com/od/ownership/a/ttgasmileage.htm (Um... o.k... you got me... that's my old, lame article.)
- What hybrid cars are on the market today
- How to choose a hybrid car
- Top 5 hybrid vechicles
- or any other high level, general interest hybrid topic.
If you'd rather ask someone from a local college come and talk, go for it!

Went to PetsMart and the pet rescue I'm with is missing in action - but I did talk with a group that is far more aggressive in finding homes for pets - going to try to get involved with them. The cats I have should have found homes a year ago.

Finally on-topic: someone at PetsMart has been driving a HCH I 4-5 years and talked with her about the July 6 event. She is interested. :)
