They are based on the content of the site. Sometimes google doesn't pick appropriate ads. It is just making a best guess on what to deliver.

But also note, not everyone here is a liberal and legislation does get discussed so occasionaly we will get ads themed for conservative candidates.

Hehe... the (lower) banner I got on this thread was "4x4 Off Road Adventures".

<dream>

Luckily, getting good gas mileage is completely apolitical. Conservatives & liberals from James Woolsey to Al Gore want to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and combat the climate crisis the scientific community is warning about with over 90% certainty. Political battles can be left to the economic / social / cultural / foreign policy boards.

Exactly mparrish.

The members on this site are doing a great job at being fair and not starting political fights. I hope it can stay that way as we grow. There is room for discussion, but no room for fighting.

BTW, my add for this thread is full color magnetic signs ;) I hope google gets a better idea on what to put up for ads because sometimes I just scratch my head ;)

:D Gee, I never knew there were ads on this site with my ad blocker plug in turned on.

My banner was appropriate.
"Are you being gouged at the pump?" The New American Story, Bill Bradley

I just came back from the store and saw that gas is up .23 since yesterday. Was $2.669 and today:$2.899

Now mine says "custom vinyl banner" because of all this banner talk ;)

Darn it!! I normally completely blank out the ads, don't even see them at all, and now you've got me LOOKING at them!!!!

Heh. My hope is that the ads are useful to members. I know 90% of the time they aren't, but I know I have occasionally found stuff that I actually wanted to click on an ad for.

Does it seem that these ads tend to put more stuff that is on topic with what ever forum it is? I mean if it's a gardening forum - more fertilizer ads, a pet forum - dog food, cleanmpg - more eco-oriented ads? Obviously it does not do it all the time, but the ads seem to lean that way - does it?

I was mostly put off by CarbonCreditKillers. In theit banner they are shredding live trees to counter our carbon offsets.
