View Full Version : Are there any CleanMPG-ers near Charlotte, NC ?
ericbecky 04-05-2007, 05:18 PM I am looking to put together a hybrid car gathering near Charlotte this summer on June 30th. It would be in Concord, North Carolina. Are there any CleanMPG-ers in the area? I can't seem to find many mentions of Charlotte when searching the forums.
Would you be interested in a get together on that day?
brick 04-05-2007, 07:07 PM Hmm. I can't commit now but I'm transplanting from Connecticut to Columbia, SC at the end of May. Looks like that's a couple hours, which isn't too bad. Put me down as a maybe?
ericbecky 04-06-2007, 03:26 PM o.k. Maybe it is. :)
Anyone else a little more local?
This will be a morning event begining ~9 am or so.
Hi, I'm new here. I actually live in Charlotte, not too far from Concord. My wife and I have an 06 HCHII. We love our hybrid and do our best to get as much FE as we can (we're averaging around 47mpg, but now getting around 53 since the weather warmed up). We, or I, might be interested in attending.
What's involved?
Take Care,
Jess

The event will be in historic downtown Concord, NC, (Concord is ~35 northeast of Charlotte). The event would last a few hours.
There is a large national car event - Great Race (http://www.ci.concord.nc.us/news_1.asp?newID=498) going on that morning. I have secured a small section of their car display area for us to show off our hybrids. Any make/model hybrid is fine. It'll be a great way to hang out for a few hours and to share your experience with others about your hybrid.
I hear people are willing to come, which is great! Most of the main event's work will be done by the Great Race people, we just need to worry about our small piece of things.
We need at least one local person who is willing to be the go-to person on the day of the show, as well as do a little pre-show logistics via interaction with the Great Race people.
At minimum it would involve coordinating some stuff like:
- confirming the time we need to arrive, how long we will be staying, and when we will be leaving
- Sharing that info with the rest of the people who are coming.
- maybe getting a local speaker to talk about hybrids, or maybe have one person from the group of owners do a short presentation on a hybrid topic 5-10 minutes?
- Getting an "easy up" tent/awning so that there is a bit of shade/weather protection in case the speaker needs it?
- having fun
Since this is a totally new event I am pretty open to ideas that would add to the fun.
Think of it as a small "Taste of Hybridfest (http://www.hybridfest.com)".
If we can get a small gathering of hybrids there it would be nice, but for now I really need to know in the next week whether someone will be the local contact. Without a local person helping out with a bit of the logistics, this will not work out and I'll simply forfeit the space I've reserved. You can post here or PM me or I'd be happy to call you and talk about it over on the phone.
JimboK 04-10-2007, 08:09 AM I see from your link that Jack Roush is part of the organizing body. You don't expect him to let Toyotas play, do you? :)
(NASCAR fans will know what I mean.)

So Jess,
Are you up for it? Will you be the local contact? You can PM me your phone number and I can talk it over with you if you want even more details.
This is simply meant to be an easy and fun way for hybrid owners to get together. I will be with you every step of the way.
(C'mon you guys, help me talk Jess into it. A little peer pressure goes a long way, you know!)
Thank you in advance...
