This looks like an excellent family vehicle! Minimum 34 cu ft behind the back seat - that nearly matches the Odyssey's 38. On a recent family trip I estimated our actual cargo volume to be 20 cu ft. About half of that was for the baby.

The question that remains is, will 3 car seats fit in 53.5 in rear hip room? Maybe this will help by sliding half forward and half back to stagger the seats.

People have fit 3 car seats in a Prius but 2 of the seats had to be narrow ones.

I suspect that the additional inch won't make much difference to the possibility, but the other additional space in the rear will improve the ergonomics and make it more practical. Unfortunately, with Toyota having an incentive to sell the Sienna instead of a Prius v they aren't going to help.

Prius Vs have now been our local showrooms for about a week. We stopped by Broadway Toyota to take a peek inside one and pick up a brochure. They said they've sold about one a day so far, and they had two on the lot at the time: a gray Level Five, and a black Level Two. No ADM printed on the sticker, at least, so the black one (with destination) was stickered at a bit over $27k. Gray one was stickered above $30k, and IIRC was not the version with the sunroof package.

Cargo space is indeed generous, and is augmented by the fact that the rear seats can slide forward almost a foot: you could stuff some pretty large items in the "well" created by doing this, in fact. There's also room for storing a few small or flat items under the rear seats -- and the rear seatbacks recline! Another nice perk is it doesn't have continuous center console of the regular Prius', which blocks passage between the front seats. Bizarrely, like other Priuses it still only has one front cupholder.

Other than the marriage-wrecking cupholder situation this would probably be my dream car, and maybe in a few years I'll trade in my Touring early for a used one. But it's sure out of my range now, at $11.5k more than I paid for my car. Even with 84mo financing you'd be looking at $400-ish monthly payments. Yeesh. But please everyone else buy one so there will be a steady supply of used and ex-lease ones in a few years!

Actually the Gen III Prius has a second cup holder in front. You have to slide the center storage cover back to use it.

Hi Dan:

You have read our write-up on the v, right?

CleanMPG Previews the 2012 Prius v (cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40016)

In any case, I think it is by far one of the best purchases out there for a small SUV/CUV/Minivan crossover shopper.

i hate that they put the dash in the middle.

I thought I'd dislike it, but it doesn't make any difference to me (or my wife, I think). You can glance at it just using your eyes, as you do with a rear-view mirror, so there's no additional strain on your neck. I wear glasses and it's well inside my field of vision.

I'd prefer the cluster in front of me, but it doesn't make enough difference that I'd pay more for it.
