View Full Version : Hyundai Sonata vs Kia Optima, Help me make up my mind on which car to buy? landongolf 07-06-2011, 01:59 PM I have to decide between a Hyundai Sonata 2012 and a Kia Optima 2011, both fully loaded, The optima will be cheaper, But from what I have read the gas mileage on the Sonata is better..... Help me decide, Thanks :p MaxxMPG 07-06-2011, 02:14 PM The 2012 Sonata 6AT will have an EPA rating of 24/35. The 2011 Optima is rated 24/34. Resale on a 2012 Hyundai is almost sure to be better than a 2011 Kia, but that isn't important if you will be keeping the car for more than 7 years. The 2012 Sonata has BlueLink, which is a pay-service after the first year or so, but it will offer some neat connectivity between Smartphone and Sonata. Warranty is about the same, but I would give the nod to the local (purchasing) dealer that has a reputation for better service. If, for example, the Kia dealer has a more competent and attentive service department, the Optima would be a better choice because of a more positive ownership experience. In my area, the Hyundai dealers are far better in sales and service, and the closest Kia dealer - both sales and service - gives the impression that a prison bus rolled over on the main road and all the inmates escaped and ran into the dealer and applied for a job. The two cars use the same basic technology and although they're built in different countries (although for 2012, Optima production is coming to the Georgia plant), their build quality seems to be equivalent. For most buyers, it seems to be a choice based on styling or which company is offering the best financing rate that month. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2013, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
