I HAVE BEEN TEMPTED!!!!! When I was running a search to see what used hybrids were in my area I came across these.

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/used/chevrolet/silverado-1500-hybrid/_/N-ma9Zfh1Zh2rZm5d?mkId=20053&mdId=22131&rd=150&zc=73072&PMmt=1-1-0&stkTypId=28881&rpp=50&feedSegId=28705&searchSource=SORT&crSrtFlds=stkTypId-feedSegId-mkId-mdId&pgId=2102&sf1Nm=miles&sf1Dir=ASC&sf2Nm=price&sf2Dir=DESC

These deals made my mouth water, especially the two hybrids <$27,000 with <9K miles. I know the numbers behind the Silverado Hybrid, the MPGs are crappy when compared to other hybrids but awesome when compared to other trucks. I LOVE TRUCKS AND THE TEMPTATION TO DRIVE DOWN AND PICK ONE UP IS PRETTY STRONG! This could also be a family mover with the spacious crew cab!

This is NOT what I NEED, but it is what I WANT!!!!! I may need help to resist!!!!!

Gotta wonder why someone wants to get rid of something with less than 9K on the odometer, sounds almost too good to be true but U never know

So I guess the silverado hybrids made before 2009 were just the ones that only shutdown the engine at stoplights right?

These pickups use the Two-Mode drivetrain. From what I've read, it takes some real skill (meaning any one of us but not the average driver) to hit the EPA estimates. The status of the batteries - if they have been sitting indefinitely - is an unknown. And if anything ever goes wrong with the transmission, the replacement costs as much as a new truck. Fun fact - It has no reverse gear. To back up, it runs the electric motor backwards - no connection to the gas engine.

Highway EPA is about the same for the gas-only and hybrid. The only gain is in the city cycle. Unless the truck is used almost exclusively in traffic, there wouldn't be much in fuel savings.

That is right.

And now that you mention that, 4 of the 5 hybrids listed are at the same dealership in a small Oklahoma town. Why would that be?

Jeff told them they were junk and showed he could haul as much as the typical truck driver down there in his Mazda 3 at much higher mileage?

Maybe they were a bunch that had been grant-bought by a company or government body and have now been replaced.

AND why would you switching truck, to save money or reduce your carbon footprint?
Since you will not be saving that much in gas, but costing you a lot of up front money
I would keep your 06 until it needs to be changed out

I am going thought the same thing now with the rebates on trucks,( up to 13gs off) I may save a grand in fuel over a year but cost me 6gs a year to buy it
