Hi All:

Some 2011 Fiesta SES FE and odometer study detail…

The 2011 Fiesta SES Hatch is spec’ed at slightly over 2,537 empty and currently there are two in the car and with gear at ~ 3,175 pounds. In other words, it is well loaded.

2011 Ford Fiesta SES Hatch – Steady State MPG Study

70-mph - 33.4 mpg (5th gear)
60-mph - 41.0 mpg (5th gear)
50-mph - 49.7 mpg (5th gear)
40-mph - 58.9 mpg (5th gear)

This was using CC on a relatively flat section of the Interstate +/- 20’ over approximately 5-miles. Winds are calm with a temperature range from 71 to 74 degrees F.

2011 Ford Fiesta SES Hatch – Odometer Study

P&G vs. 20-miles per highway mile markers.

Fiesta Odometer/Trip A/B – 19.6 miles vs. 20.0 miles actual.

Steady State vs. 35-miles per highway mile markers.

Fiesta Odometer/Trip A/B – 35.1 miles vs. 35.0 miles actual.

2011 Ford Fiesta SES Hatch – 60-mph RPM Study

Calculated - 2,652
Actual - 2,700

And of course the Fiesta all of the above was determined in ;)

The manual version should be running 400 rpms less at 60 mph. :(

The RPM's at 60 mph in top gear should be even lower than that. My 92 Civic CX runs 1925 RPM's in 5th gear at 60 mph and was perfectly drivable despite having only a 70 HP engine. There's no excuse for having 2652 RPM's at 60 mph in top gear unless they figure their prospective customer base wants worse highway mileage, increased engine noise, and a shorter engine life. If you want fast acceleration, that's what the lower gears are for, the top gear should be tall geared for highway cruising. My 92 Civic, a car fairly comparable in size and Cd, handily beat those steady speed mileages even in its stock, pre-aeromodded days (in its current engine/aeromod state, its running close to twice those mileage figures). True, the Fiesta weighs over 400 lbs more than my Civic, but that extra weight has almost no effect on mileage when driving at constant speed on a flat road, so that low Fiesta mileage is likely mainly due to the short highway gearing.

Hi All:

Andrew in the backseat of a fully loaded 11 Ford Fiesta SES Hatch. Notice his expression? It was tight with its full load of gear.

Hi All:

It only took about 20-minutes with help from Bob, his friend John, his son Levi and myself but the Fiesta looks a whole lot more OEM now ;)

For the record, this SES hatch had the top-line sport rims and tires. That's not the most fuel-efficient option, to put it mildly.
