View Full Version : Scangauge for PSA HDi diesels

Hello,

I'm considering a Scangauge for use in Citroen HDi. It seems no one here has tried it on PSA diesel, or at least I haven't found any topics about it (except one some German forums w/ Berlingo).

The engine is 1.6 HDi turbodiesel, 90 HP, max. torque @ 1750 rpm. Code DV6ATED4, originally a Ford DLD engine, used in many cars (more info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_DLD_engine)).

What I don't like in current setup is that iFCD display shows the consumption of last 2-3 seconds. Which is not particulary useful in certain situations. Plus I'd like to see LOD and some other features.

Do you think the Scangauge would work fine outside the box with PSA HDi diesels? Meaning, apart from 2-3 full tanks and minor calibration there would be no special things to program?

Installed it yesterday. Set engine to 1.6 displacement, dieselA type (diesel B was even worse).

First impression: this is a pretty expensive RPM gauge :( LOD setting is way off and consequentially the displayed FE too. Switched to dieselB and it's even worse, it shows almost double the consumption. TPS and IGN doesn't show any value. MAP and intake temperature gauges work, but that's pretty much it.

I didn't simply bought it flat out, but did some research and apart from Jetta TDI review here I thought it works OK with turbodiesels.

Any tips what can I do to have more gauges displayed or shown more accurately? I was looking forward to LOD, but it's so off that it seems useless for my purpose. Is this common issue with SG & turbodiesels?

Wayne, Seftonm, anyone?

I have the same engine in my Citroen.
HP works, no other xgauge code worked.
Peugeot software for Lexia does output all the info, so there must be way.

I believe LOD is proportional to injector pulse width. The thing is, there are many injector pulses per combustion cycle so it's hard to know which it is proportional to, or if it is proportional to all of them. Also, fuel pressure can vary and also change fuel consumption. So I don't think there is a fix and it may be a somewhat common issue with most common rail diesels.

Thanks for help. What is the X-gauge code for HP?

The LPH and MAP gauges work and may be useable for determing acceleration/pulse rate. I've found this thread (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27480) and some possible uses for MAP gauge.

I've played with MAP gauge, at idle or no load it's ~100 kPa / 14,7 PSI. When going WOT under hard acceleration, it maxes at 205 kPa / ca. 30 PSI. Metric units are comfortable for reading, so I won't be messing with X-gauge to display only boost, not absolute pressure. Combined with LPH/GPH gauge I actually may find some good use for misbehaved LOD, plus having the RPM is not so bad.

Any tips on how hard regarding MAP pressure should I accelerate/doing pulses? Is it better to have minimal boost while still maintaning low RPM/high load/high TPS?

Hi,
the code for HP is
TXD 00
RXF 400080000000
RXD 0000
MTH 000A00240000

Shows about 5hp on idle but looks rather accurate.

Here's another one that works on my 1.6l HDI:

TXD: 68 6A F1 01 0B
RXF: 04 41 45 0B 00 00
RXD: 28 08
MTH: 00 01 00 01 00 00
NAME: BAR

Intake manifold pressure in BAR.

Even though the car is supposed to be fully CAN bus, this works.
If you have time to test it, manybe other KWP2000 commands work too.
Run Time, Barometric pressure didn't work, however.

Thanks, I'll try it in a few days and report later.

Still looking for some hints for that (I'm not a fan of opening new topic for every question, though the PSA HDi seems a bit unfashionable/not a view magnet here :)):

I've been told the new 4.02 firmware will solve issues with turbodiesels and incorrect/no TPS, IGN and LOD gauges. When I obtain the upgrade, I'll post infos here.

Meanwhile, still waiting for some tips about MAP and acceleration ;)

Oh yeah, sorry I didn't reply earlier. Cars will vary but I liked to accelerate with a little boost in mine -- somewhere around 5 PSI. So that means 5 PSI above ambient, or around 19 PSI MAP. I am not sure if this is best for fuel economy, the goal was to try to balance fuel economy and exercising the turbo at the same time. I do believe that slow acceleration with low MAP is not conducive to good fuel economy, however.

Thanks for the numbers. Meanwhile, I've found one use of LPH/GPH instead of TPS and it also helps with acceleration as a sort of instant feedback (while not being accurate).

And I've send the SGII to be updated to 4.17 firmware - there has been the case in which upgrading the FW helped with above mentioned issues. Will keep this thread posted.
