Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm working from home today.

Happy Valentine's Day :)

I was happy to drive this morning :)

Current tank is 50km ahead of previous tank... this would mean I should drive nearly 200 more km, so 1800km = 1111mi  or the guessgauge is having fun with me ;)

Have fun,

Denis.

64.1 mpg / 13.0 miles / 46F and humid. The new tank* is at 64.4 mpg / 22 miles.

I filled up on the weekend. 750 miles / 12.1 gallons = 62 mpg. My worst in 2 years. E10, school delivery, unusually cold winter, snow, multiple hospital drives, etc. Last year's worst was 65.

It finally happened. For the first time in 4 years, I have a tank with lower mpg than the year before. Still, it's 197% of epa. :D

The tank is up to 43.3mpg over 123.8 miles with 10.2 gallons remaining.

Congrats

Hope I will be over 200% of "NewEPA" all year long soon... highway travels excepted ;)

I should look my 2010 scores without the highway travels... the average should be over 62mpg, but not tonight ;)

Back after a little bit of downtime for the Metro. I finally changed the timing belt, and water pump and swapped in a new camshaft and timing pulley. Initial work commute was impressive due to the heavy traffic. Work commute back home was actually pretty good considering my route, and the traffic.

80.2 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
61.8 MPG / 11.3 Miles work to home

As your best tank is 64mpg, your 80mpg commute is really impressive.
If I calculate it correctly, this is around 200% for your quarter year challenge... div A will be so challenging...

You've still got me beat by a wide margin. I'd have to pull my combined average up to 88mpg just to hit 200% -- not likely in this weather!

epurvee
02-14-2011, 01:41 PM
My tank is sitting at 54 MPG right now just past half way due to quite a bit of running idle as I burped the coolant, and short test drives to make sure the timing was right after the timing belt and camshaft swap. The real test will be my commute home, as that's the one I have a lot of trouble breaking 60 MPG on.

gabe1475

I had a nice start to my tank. 85mpg on the way in, did not check the temps and the Insight does not have temp gauge so not sure the temp, but it was probably high 40s if I had to guess.

Right Lane Cruiser
02-14-2011, 02:10 PM
Gabe, a good guess (at least if your car has been sitting outside for a while) is to take a look at the air intake temp on the ScanGauge before you start the engine. I often do that just to get an idea of what I'm dealing with when leaving work. I park in a garage at home so that doesn't work for trips starting there.

Great day today for f/e. This is the first time this semester that I got the same mpg average as mileage for the day and only used a single gallon. The past few weeks with the cold weather, the best I was able to do was about 1.08 gallons/day before today. Unfortunately the cold will be back tomorrow.

51F and overcast with winds from the W @ 17mph

The week was at 18.1 MPG. it was the trifecta Snow (covered roads), Cold and Wind that did me in.:(

I will see what I can do for the next few days as it suppose to be in the 50's and near 70 on Thursday to salvage the MPG for the tank. It will be difficult as I have just over 1/8 tank left. I might be able to get 3 or 4 more days out of it before filling.

Warmer today so I took my old route -- looks like I came out about even on fuel usage because it would have been 70.9mpg on the highway... though I might have been able to beat that.

The commute to work this morning had some unfortunate timing on some of my glides hitting lights, which broke up one usually long glide. I'm disappointed I didn't get higher, but it this will be my low end, I am very happy. On my way home, I believe I set a new record for my commute back. Things might be turning out quite nicely.

Andrew, could you please stop improving your tank ? ;) so I have a little chance to catch you up without having to reach my 2010 summer average (69.5mpg) during next two tanks...

<OT>
At least I will have to find a lot of motivation... In fact the single way to improve without having to slow down under 70-85 km/h (44-53 mph) is to improve my car again. Current projects in my head :

aero again and again... noticeably the under belly in front of front wheels,
electric diagram again, maybe something like that (http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/daoxs-1997-paseo-build-thread-701-12.html#post109942)).
weight reduction, even 130lbs seams unrealistic to me... and would achieve only 2% saving.

Will never have my insight1, but gonna beat a prius2/3 (excepted anti-pollution)

epurvee, 80MPG over a 11mi is really impressive. My car need this distance to be hot nowadays with near freezing temps.

Changing my route and schedule has been the first hypermiling rules I applied. Except appointments, I follow them as strictly as possible. They are maybe the most effective rules I'm applying. I'm lucky enough to not have strict work schedules and to be able to work from home to begin/end my work day.

Andrew, I understand why Ariane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariane_%28rocket_family%29) canceled its departure today : you stole all her fuel ;)

This afternoon on the highway, I had a pickup following me from the time I got on all the way to getting off the exit. Once at the intersection after the toll booths, he turned left and I turned right. He kept an excellent distance, though I figured eventually he would pass like most people do, but he didn't. He even slowed down with me going uphill DWL. It was actually pretty cool and made my day.

Gabe, sometimes it is worth finding somewhere to wait out a traffic jam or simply driving at a different time.

I hear you, stayed to 5:30 yesterday and managed 91mpg with better than average traffic conditions, still some slowing, but at least 20% less than normal. Also weather was at 72 degrees in the afternoon. I start early so don't want to stay late all the time with the hour commute I barely get to see the kids. Solution would be to move to the other side of town where work is and more freeways (less traffic), but that will not happen for a while as my credit is not great. Got the tank up to 83.1mpg over 162miles.

Morning: -3C (27F), still, dry roads. Talking about transporting strange things on motorcycles: I stopped to buy some (34kg=75lbs) wood briquette and packed it on Teresa :D I don't like the store's placement, it's too close to my workplace so it means another cold start after the shopping. Buying heavy things and drive them to work before going home doesn't work well for me. Well, whatever
Got home pretty warm then my feet got cold on the floor of the house. Good that the idea of a bottle of warm water finally popped up in my mind. I'd like to move...

Afternoon: +2C (36F), silent and dry again. Packed some inflammable paper waste to dispose selectively in the next village. It's quick and after like 9km, so the engine starts warm.
