Now that's funny.

I electrified my bird feeder to keep the squirrels out of it, and it didn't take them too long to learn that climbing the pole to get at the bird seed is very painful. A few jolts and they decided to just sit on the deck railing and wait for whatever the birds knocked out of the tray.

The way I built it, birds and smaller creatures like mice and chipmunks can enjoy the seed without getting zapped. The squirrels would watch the chipmunk run up the pole (being too small to reach both the hot and neutral at the same time), and decide that it might be safe for them to try. They'd grab both sides and do the voltage dance and bounce off onto the deck. So far, they haven't figured out how to get around it.
A few years ago, a bear cub wandered up to the feeder one night when my wife forgot to bring it in after sundown. He decided the board holding the feeder is a "tree" and decided to climb up to get at the seed. Bears conduct electricity. Knocked him on his rump. He got up and ran in the direction he was heading - through the deck railing, knocking a spindle out. My wife called me and told me what happened, starting off by asking, "Did you know that bears can scream?" Hopefully bears can learn, too!

We can only speculate, Laurie. The elastic bands don't seem that long and the basket looks to be swinging down by the last frame.

I do love the hand and scissors. It reminds me of Terry Gilliam's animation on Monty Python

We could do more than speculate. Open the .gif in photoshop and measure the initial launch velocity from the last two frames in which the basket appears.

I bet you could drop squirrels out of an airplane, and they'd survive the impact when they finally get to the ground (due to excessive aero drag per unit mass). Unless the low launch angle turned this squirrel into a "worm-burner", then it's likely that this squirrel will die another day.
