Does anyone have an recommendations on a decent snow tire for the HCHII? I'm looking for something that will have the least impact on MPG if thats even possible.
I'll keep searching!

Nokian 2g?- Lots of people swear by them. They use all year around. I looked at them and here in my Province they are $580 for four.I don't require them yet.They are LRR tire. You may want to check them out. Some Prius folks are using them in your State. H

I'll have to check them out!
Thanks for the advice Harold!

I run Michelin X-Ice Xi2's on my Prius. I'm more worried about starting and stopping on snow and ice than caring about better gas mileage.

Well, I always recommend Michelin X-Ice for hybrid owners and because I eat the dog food I promote, these particular Michelin series are the only winter rubber I use and trust for maximum safety, comfort and absolute least impact to FE. They are not always the cheapest but to many folks they are certainly worth the money.
There. Now you can accuse me of being a Michelin fan-boy too. :D

Would you use them full time[Ice radials] and how does the LRR compare with the Nokian g2's.

I haven't put them through their paces in rough conditions yet, but the Continental Extreme Winter Contacts that I just installed haven't put much of a dent in my fuel economy. Call it 4-5% relative to my Hydroedges, though part of that may be the simultaneous nose-dive that temperatures took when I bolted them on. I expected worse.

Hi Harold;
You mean: All year around? No way. ;)
I religiously change my wheels twice a year and that means that I only use my winter rubber when temps are actually below freezing. Driving with them on under warmer temperatures is a sure way to wear them off in a hurry.

Most people or some are using the Nokian all year around. This way they don't require extra set of wheels along with storage of 4 wheels complete with tires. Sounds like one great tire to me! I may try it next year.

Those Nokian must be a world class tire to be able to perform well in the winter and not erode away during the warmer temperatures. It is almost as if they defy the current state of tire technology.
The second reason why I use different sets of wheels for the winter is the reduced damage I place on the OEM rims. The pitting, chipping and erosion caused by the winter time salt and sand used into our roadways makes it impossible to have the rims looking good year after year. So far, mine look like the rest of the car: not a single scratch or chip - even on my 2006 HCH. ;)

Yes you do make a good point about wheels. H
