How does the Korean MPG test compare to the US one? Either way, looks like SERIOUS hurt could be put on Ford's Fiesta. 6MT, GDI engine, available sat nav and backup camera?

Its specs look like my 16 yo Elantra, which also had a 1.6 L engine and was 173" in length.

Ah yes. I had a '95 with those specs. It was a California emissions spec car so it didn't get the 1.8L the rest of the models seem to have that year. I'm sure the new one has a lot more torque than my old '95 -- I can accelerate faster in the Insight with no assist than I could in that car with the AC on!!

I've got some good news I believe :):

In 2004, South Korea replaced its voluntary, unenforced standard with a mandatory program—the Average Fuel Economy (AFE) system—that started in 2006 for domestic vehicles and will start in 2009 for imports. (Earlier post.) The current standards are 12.4 km/l (29.2 mpg US) for vehicles with engine displacements of 1.5 liters or less and 9.6 km/l (22.6 mpg US) for vehicles with engine displacements of more than 1.5 liters. Credits can be earned to offset shortfalls.

Vehicles are evaluated for compliance with the AFE standard using the US EPA City test cycle.

Not sure if this means much, but I'm likening the results of the Accent to be closer to the US EPA HWY test cycle.

How does that 42.8 mpg translate? Is it closer to 42.8 mpg CAFE, or 42.8 EPA city mpg? The former isn't very impressive. The latter is unbelievable.

There are rumors floating around of 42mpg being the official numbers, so I'd say those numbers will reflect official ratings. Would we be surprised of a 43mpg hwy rating? :D.
