Did anyone catch the February 4th article in the New York Times that had info about the Scangauge in it? I don't remember seeing this one, although Ron at Linear Logic said it was on the front of the business section.

also in the article hybrid owner Rees Roberts of Racine discussed his Prius that is equipped with a Scangauge II.

Yeah, I saw that. Was pretty interesting to see the ScanGauge mentioned in a major publication.

Well, MetroMPG.com is no major publication...

But coincidentally... I interviewed Ron DeLong just last week for a new article on my site. Why? I was simply curious to find out how the SG came to be, a bit about the man who invented it, and future plans for the little box.

I didn't uncover a lot of new juicy technical info that people who follow the news & rumours about the SG don't already know. Maybe a couple of things:

- Trip (avg) and Instant FE will be viewable on the same (4-gauge) screen :Banane06:

- the intention to add user-definable "gauges" for vehicles which offer more info through ODBII than the standard pre-defined set of gauges (e.g. your vehicle may have multiple temp sensors, gear indicators, etc.)

- the fact that the current unit is using only 1/2 of its processing capability, leaving lots of room for future SG2 improvements via downloadable upgrades.

- Ron's assertion that the SG2 will have a "long shelf life" - meaning the focus is on software development, not changes to the hardware.

Ron was reluctant to offer any specific dates for this stuff (understandable to play it conservative, after having missed the data logging release date.)

I really enjoy talking with Ron. He is a nice guy and has a great story to tell about the humble beginnings of his idea for Scangauge. Thanks for putting his story into print.

I had exchanged email with him a few times in the past about my SG, but last week was the first time I talked to him on the phone.

I'd read numerous times how accomodating and friendly he was "in person", and now I can vouch for that impression too.

And talk about enthusiastic! The guy clearly loves his work. (Much more than I enjoy mine! Makes me a bit envious.)

Ive spoken with him myself on the phone several times. he seems like a nice guy and very intrested in what we are doing with his little box.

As for the New York Times. Reading that thing is like watching CNN... My eyes My eyes.
